OFFICIAL: JA MORANT HAS JUST RECEIVED THE FINAL VERDICT FROM THE JUDGE IN THE CASE, HE ONLY APPEARED IN 9 MATCHES THIS YEAR (kf)

The star of the Memphis Grizzlies, Ja Morant, acted in self-defense.

The Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant never faced criminal charges for his incident with Joshua Holloway, but civil lawsuits have been pending ever since. In case you missed it, in July of 2022, Morant and Holloway, who was then 17 years old, got into a fight during a pickup basketball game. After the argument, Morant hit Holloway, which the Grizzlies player subsequently said was done in self-defense.

The Tennessee judge’s decision that Morant did, in fact, act in self-defense was made public in an ESPN article on Tuesday. This is good news for the great player of the Grizzlies and his legal team. According to ESPN,

“In a win for Ja Morant, a Tennessee judge ruled Monday that the Memphis Grizzlies superstar fairly acted in self-defense when he punched a teenager at Morant’s home in July 2022, according to a court filing obtained by ESPN,”

“In Monday’s filing, Shelby County Circuit Judge Carol Chumney ruled Morant ‘enjoys a presumption of civil immunity’ under Tennessee’s self-defense immunity statute and that the burden of proof shifts to Holloway and his legal team to prove that Morant didn’t act in self-defense.”

After serving a suspension at the start of the season and suffering a shoulder injury soon after his return, Morant has only appeared in nine games this year. When the next season starts, he should be prepared to play once again.
