Dare to Bare! Actresses Who Stripped Down and Went Full Frontal Nude Onscreen in Movies and TV Shows

Very little is off limits when it comes to naked scenes in movies and television shows these days. In fact, some of the most recognizable, high-profile actresses have stripped down and gotten full frontal nude on camera.

Jennifer Lawrence made headlines when she filmed a totally nude scene for her movie No Hard Feelings in 2023. Despite concern from her family and professional team about the naked beach scene, Jennifer had no qualms about baring all on camera. She joins other female stars like Angelina Jolie, Margot Robbie and more who have done the same.

JENNIFER LAWRENCE – ‘NO HARD FEELINGS’

Jennifer Lawrence stripped down for her 2023 comedy No Hard Feelings. She appeared completely naked while getting out of the water during a scene on the beach.

SALMA HAYEK – ‘DESPERADO’

Desperado was Salma Hayek’s breakout role and she had to be completely naked for a scene with Antonio Banderas in the 1993 movie. It wasn’t until years later that she opened up about how traumatizing the experience was for her, as she said she wasn’t told about the NSFW scene beforehand.

“When we were going to start shooting, I started to sob, ‘I don’t know that I can do that. I’m afraid,’” she said on the “Armchair Expert” podcast in 2021. “One of the things I was afraid of was Antonio. He was an absolute gentleman and so nice and we’re still super close friends, but he was very free. It scared me that for him, it was like nothing.”

MARGOT ROBBIE – ‘THE WOLF OF WALL STREET’

Margot Robbie was relatively unknown before she starred in 2013’s The Wolf of Wall Street, but she didn’t shy away from showing some skin while seducing Leonardo DiCaprio’s character in the film. In a 2014 interview, Margot revealed that she was given the option to wear a robe for the racy scene but insisted that it be filmed in a more realistic way.

“I think nudity for the sake of nudity is shameful,” Margot explained to The Telegraph. “If they’ve put it in just so that a girl gets her top off, then that’s disgusting. And you can always tell. But I also think it’s disgusting when someone would have gotten naked in real life, [but] in the film they conveniently leave their bra on or hold up the bed sheet. Seeing someone be choreographed into being covered up irritates me just as much.”

She continued, “The whole point of [my character] Naomi is that her body is her only form of currency in this world. She has to be naked. She’s laying her cards on the table.”

ANGELINA JOLIE – ‘BY THE SEA’

Angelina Jolie filmed a topless scene in a bathtub for her 2015 movie By The Sea, which she starred in with then-husband Brad Pitt. It wasn’t the first time the actress stripped down in a film, but it was a much more poignant moment, as it was her first nude scene after her preventative double mastectomy two years prior.

“There were lots of scenes I wanted to change or cut. I realized it was going to be me [naked] in that bathtub,” Angelina told The New York Times. “But I told myself…put all of that aside. Like, you can’t change or cut this scene just because you’ve had a mastectomy or because we’re married, and people are going to analyze this or that. That would be cheating.”

SCARLETT JOHANSSON – ‘UNDER THE SKIN’

Scarlett Johansson had nude scenes in her 2013 movie Under the Skin. “You kind of have to weigh the value of the risk you are taking,” she told The New York Times. “Is this a vanity project or is this an important part of the character’s journey to self discovery? I’m not a provocative person. It’s not like I live to be photographed in the buff or anything like that.”

She admitted that it was “challenging but interesting” to deal with her own vanity while filming. “[It’s] like, ‘I really am self-conscious about this or I’m holding on to this idea I should look like that,’” she shared. “We all have it. I guess as a woman, we have it more.”

ALEXANDRA DADDARIO – ‘TRUE DETECTIVE’

Alexandra Daddario filmed several nude scenes with Woody Harrelson for True Detective in 2014. “I saw it as a good challenge. I saw it as an interesting challenge,” she shared. “I really wanted to be part of the show and I understood why the nudity and all of that was required of the character. The character is really different from anything that I’ve done before. The nudity was just part of that.”

She also credited Woody with making the situation “comfortable” and “not awkward” for her.

KATE WINSLET

Aside from her famous topless scene in TitanicKate Winslet has appeared nude on camera multiple times. In a 2023 interview with Vogue, she opened up about why she isn’t hesitant to strip down onscreen.

“I know better than to waste precious energy on criticizing my physical self,” Kate shared. “I think any woman is better off just saying, ‘I believe in myself. It doesn’t matter what other people think. This is who I am. Let’s get on with it.’”

SHARON STONE – ‘BASIC INSTINCT’

Sharon Stone famously stripped down for her role in 1992’s Basic Instinct. However, in her 2021 memoir, she opened up about feeling “misled” about how much skin she was going to have to show in the movie. The actress said she didn’t see the full frontal image until she was watching the movie at a screening with agents and lawyers.

“[It was] long after I’d been told, ‘We can’t see anything, I just need you to remove your panties, as the white is reflecting the light, so we know you have panties on,’” she recalled. “Now, here is the issue. It didn’t matter to anyone. It was me and my parts up there. I had decisions to make.”
