In a candid interview, he opened up about the reason for starring in this project, saying that after doing his 2010 American drama Blue Valentine with Michelle Williams, he went for a physical checkup. The actor claimed that his doctor advised him to do a comedy flick, and that’s how he decided to get on board with Stone on Crazy, Stupid, Love. He shared:

“I had to go get a physical after I did Blue Valentine. For no particular reason, just that I needed a checkup. My doctor wrote me a prescription, and it said, ‘Do a comedy.’ So I took his advice, and I feel better.”

“I started reading all these men’s magazines, trying to follow all the tips: what you’re supposed to wear, what you’re supposed to have, things you’re supposed to say, and all the exercises you’re supposed to do. I thought this character is someone who follows all these tips to the letter of the law, and yet he wasn’t happy.”

The Glenn Ficarra-directed Crazy, Stupid, Love film stars Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, Marisa Tomei, and Kevin Bacon. The movie received critical acclaimed and grossed over $145M at the global box office.
