It sounds like legendary NFL head coach Bill Belichick will be taking his talents over to the NFC.

On Thursday, CBS Sports NFL insider Josina Anderson reports that the 71-year-old Belichick is expected to become the Atlanta Falcons’ next head coach, as long as there isn’t “a snag in negotiations.”

Belichick already had one interview with the NFC South club this week, and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported today that a second interview is scheduled between the Falcons and the future Hall of Famer.

Last week, Belichick and Patriots owner Robert Kraft held a press conference to announce that the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach was leaving the organization. The Patriots finished a miserable 4-13, marking their third losing and non-playoff season in four years.

Inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo, a member of the New England coaching staff since 2019, was promoted to the head coaching position following Belichick’s departure.

With that, seven head coaching vacancies across the league remain: The Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans and Washington Commanders.

The Falcons fired head coach Arthur Smith following a third straight 7-10 finish and non-playoff season. Atlanta hasn’t made the postseason nor finished with a winning record since the 2017 campaign.
