When Joe Burrow suffered a season-ending injury in week 11 of the 2023 season, the one who stepped in for the Cincinnati Bengals was Jake Browning, who led them to an adequate season end at 11-6, winning four of the seven games he started. To continue to have such reliability and backing for the team, the Bengals didn’t waste much time and re-signed Browning.

The Bengals announced the news of Browning’s addition to the team for another two seasons as a backup to quarterback Burrow on Tuesday, they have re-claimed the exclusive rights of a free agent in a two-year deal. But the terms of the contract are yet to be disclosed.

Browning’s journey up until now hasn’t been quite fulfilling as he entered the league as an undrafted free agent after signing with the Minnesota Vikings in 2019. But he has hardly been a regular-season game. It wasn’t until last season when he finally got the opportunity to start regular season games and he took full advantage of that.

The quarterback is coming off his best season, despite the fact the Bengals couldn’t make it to the playoffs. He finished the season by posting 1,936 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions while completing 70.3% of his passes.

Despite the absence of starting QB Burrow, Browning didn’t let the Bengals’ offense get off the rail and continued the playoff chase until the very last week of the regular season, when Cincinnati was overpowered by the reigning Super Bowl champions.

Fans react to Bengals re-signing Jake Browning

As the Bengals broke the news of re-signing Browning on social media, fans couldn’t wait to celebrate. When Burrow got benched, fans lost all hope in the Super Bowl dream as Browning hardly had any experience playing up front and taking the lead of the offense. But the way he came through, he proved himself to be an asset for the Bengals.
