Exclusive : In the Billboard Charts, Olivia Rodrigo Prevents The Super Star Pop Singer

Taylor Swift’s albums are selling incredibly well at the moment—and not just her most recent release. The singer-songwriter dominates several of Billboard’s purchase-only rankings with a slew of successful projects, all of which are being snapped up in the thousands. This week, the superstar nearly made history on a pair of lists, but one fellow musician interjected and stopped her from doing so.

Exclusive : In the Billboard Charts, Olivia Rodrigo Prevents The Super Star Pop Singer "Taylor Swift" From Making History...
On both the Top Album Sales and Vinyl Albums charts, Swift nearly fills the entirety of the top five. She misses out on doing so—and making history yet again—by just one frustrating spot on both tallies. Olivia Rodrigo interrupts her reign on the two lists with her months-old title that is selling very well this holiday season.

Amazingly, the top five on both the Top Album Sales and Vinyl Albums charts look exactly the same. That suggests that vinyl made up a very large portion of all album purchases in the U.S. last week.

Swift claims the Nos. 1 through 4 spots on the two Billboard charts this week. She rules yet again with her most recent offering, 1989 (Taylor’s Version). That re-recording is followed quickly by Midnights (No. 2), Lover (No. 3), and Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) (No. 4).

Rodrigo’s sophomore album Guts comes in at No. 5 on both charts, improving slightly from where it sat last week. Swift almost managed the top five, as her other collection Folklore dips slightly to No. 6. If things had worked out just a bit differently, she would have controlled the entire area.

Swift recently filled the five highest spots on the Vinyl Albums chart, and in doing so, she made history. When nobody could break up her string of bestsellers, the Grammy winner became the first solo artist and woman to own the top five at once. She joined Metallica as the only musical act to manage the showing.
