Former NFL brothers reveal who they think will challenge the Kansas City Chiefs in the next few years

When you’re a dynasty like the Kansas City Chiefs are, you will get everyone’s best every single week, so it just gets that much harder to win. Everyone wants to be that team to end the run. Why would you not want to be that team?

There have been a few times when other teams were supposed to be that team to end the Chiefs’ dynasty. The Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles, and San Francisco 49ers are all teams that were supposed to beat the Chiefs by general consensus, and beating them would have helped to end the dynasty.

Yet, here we are. Now, there is another team that people are talking about to end the Chiefs, or at least get close. This one is much more respectable when you look at the way the team has done it and how humble they are. Former NFL players and brothers Chris and Kyle long think the Houston Texans are that next team.

“They have crushed it,” Chris Long said on his podcast. “They have upgraded everywhere. They lose Singletary; they bring in a 27-year-old Mixon. They lose Greenard, who I think was great this year; they bring in a bonafide blue chip guy in Hunter.

“They lose Rankins; they bring in Autry, who is one of my favorite interior and edge guys in the league because he can play both. So, they kind of got faster in some spots. And Azeez Al-Shaair, who they got from the Tennessee Titans, is going to pay dividends for them because Ryans had him in San Francisco… when you look at the AFC, they are as a favorite as anyone to challenge Kansas City.”

The Texans really have had a great offseason, if not the best offseason. They have a rookie quarterback in C.J. Stroud, who is already a top-five quarterback in the league. Then, you factor in what they did already and the fact that it was their first season with their core in place, and it does scream contender.

However, we have now realized that there is much more to being a winner than a contender. The Chiefs have made it known there is a gap between being a contender and being a team like the Chiefs that actually wins it. Sure, teams like the Texans can give the Chiefs trouble, but there are a lot more steps those teams have to take to get to the Chiefs level.

But it would be silly to say that what the Texans can become isn’t scary. They should be a very good team.
