The latest trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine has finally given Hugh Jackman’s Logan the spotlight. Hugh Jackman may have officially retired from the role in 2017, but seven years later, it’s clear he hasn’t lost a step and that his inevitable return was worth the wait.

Marvel Studios is being careful not to reveal too much about the threequel; however, if this preview confirms anything, it’s that this movie will have major consequences for the Multiverse Saga.

7. That’s Not Wolverine

Well, not the Wolverine we’re used to spending time with, anyway! This Variant failed his world and appears to be hated for it, presumably meaning his fellow X-Men are dead (likely ending theories he hails from the same world as The Marvels‘ Beast).

Finding out what he did looks to be a big part of Deadpool & Wolverine‘s story, and we’re guessing a redemption arc is planned for Logan.

Some fans will be unhappy about this not being “the” Wolverine from the original X-Men franchise. However, Shawn Levy, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Jackman all vowed to leave Logan alone and this comic-accurate effort massively intrigues us.

6. Deadpool’s Mission

The first Deadpool & Wolverine trailer seemed to hint that Wade Wilson’s mission was saving the Sacred Timeline. In contrast, this sneak peek is all about him enlisting Logan to help him save his reality.

The Merc with the Mouth can’t bear the thought of losing the only people who matter to him and needs a true hero – Wolverine – to show him how to save a world (a mission the clawed mutant has already failed).

We still think there’s much more to the threequel than this and it feels like we’re being misdirected in the same way as Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

5. No Mask…But Also, No Sleeves!

We’ve seen it in promo art, but Deadpool & Wolverine‘s latest trailer shows nothing of the latter’s mask. Is Marvel Studios making us wait or does the hero don it for no more than a few minutes?

Honestly, we’re worried it’s the latter. On the plus side, the threequel has already made up for that by confirming Logan tears off those sleeves for what ends up being a fully comic-accurate costume!

We can only hope there’s at least one scene in this movie where Wolvie heads into battle wearing the mask and this modified suit.

4. Cassandra Nova

In the comics, Cassandra Nova a “Mummudrai,” a spirit that’s considered the equal and opposite of a person in Shi’ar culture. However, given Charles Xavier’s incredibly powerful latent mutant powers, his Mummudrai took on a physical form in the womb as his “twin.”

Managing to survive his psychic attack, she returns decades later and lays waste to the X-Men (going so far as to commit genocide in Genosha).

The latest Deadpool & Wolverine trailer clearly sets her up as an antagonist, and we see how Nova’s psychic and telekinetic abilities allow her to easily fend off Logan’s attacks. Rumour has it she can also open portals, and that may or may not explain our next observation.

Oh, and on a side note, we believe that’s Professor X’s wheelchair she’s stepping out of…

3. An Avengers: Endgame Portal

Cassandra Nova may have just found a way to use the same magic as Earth-616’s sorcerers, but we’d be remiss to not point out that the portal Deadpool and Wolverine jump through before the title card hits is identical to those seen in Avengers: Endgame.

Alioth seems to be closing in, so is the “best bubs” making their escape, only to end up on Earth-616 in the middle of the battle with Thanos?

It was big enough for them to be somewhere on the battlefield and could lead to this movie ending with them stranded on the world we’ve explored since Iron Man‘s release. We don’t necessarily think that is what’s happening here, and it’s telling that a bloodied Nova is watching them…

2. Battling The TVA

Despite being enlisted by the TVA for a mission, Wade Wilson is absolutely laying waste to a group of agents at this point in the trailer.

He’s full-on murdering the guys, and this isn’t a sequence which takes place shortly after he’s abducted from his birthday party. How do we know? Well, he’s wearing the costume they created for him!

The TVA is supposed to be heroic in nature and was left in a good place by Loki. It’s a big place, though, and not everyone will necessarily agree with their new mission statement. Remember, the CinemaCon trailer strongly hinted that Agent Paradox wants to restore He Who Remains’ Sacred Timeline…
