JAMIE FOXX RECOUNTS HOW OPRAH WINFREY STAGED AN INTERVENTION FOR HIM WITH QUINCY JONES AND SIDNEY POITIER

Jamie Foxx remembers when Oprah Winfrey succinctly set him straight in his career.

EURweb reports that Foxx told Access Hollywood about the time Winfrey pulled him aside to tell him he was partying too much. The incident happened around the time Foxx was set to win the Oscar for Best Actor for his spectacular performance in Ray as R&B crooner Ray Charles.

“She said, ‘You’re blowing it,'” he said. “…She said, ‘I want to take you somewhere so you can understand the significance of what you’re doing.'”

Foxx said she took him to meet Sidney Poitier and Quincy Jones. While doing impressions of the two men, Foxx said that Jones told him to “buckle down” and that he was “f—ing everything else up” with his antics.

“‘You can do it man…we’re counting on you, baby,'” Foxx said as Jones.

Foxx said that Poitier told him that watching his performance as Charles made him grow artistically. He also challenged Foxx to exercise responsibility.

“‘From now on throughout your career, you be responsible for what you give and what you show,'” he said Poitier told him. “And I have done as best I can to sort of live up to that because it is very important,” he continued.

Foxx’s latest projects are both new to Netflix. Day Shift, Foxx stars opposite Megan Good and Snoop Dogg as a vampire hunter. And in the much-buzzed about They Cloned Tyrone, Foxx is opposite John Boyega and Teyonah Parris as they form an unlikely trio who get to the bottom of a government conspiracy.

Day Shift is currently streaming on Netflix, while They Cloned Tyrone has yet to be released.
