MCU Rumor Roundup: Updates On THE FANTASTIC FOUR's Silver Surfer Twist, AVENGERS 5, BLADE, And More

The rumour mill has churned out even more MCU updates, this time about plans for Galactus and the Silver Surfer in The Fantastic FourBlade‘s new setting, Avengers 5‘s hunt for a director, and more…

It’s been a while since Marvel Studios has shared an update about its Multiverse Saga slate, and with a supposed creative overhaul taking place, we’d bet on it looking a lot different than what was unveiled at Comic-Con a couple of years ago.

Avengers 5, for example, has lost its title and is no longer going by “The Kang Dynasty.” Despite that and the departure of original creative team writer Jeff Loveness (Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania) and director Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Michael Waldron has remained hard at work on the script.

According to Jeff Sneider, the plan is indeed for Avengers 5 to shoot next year. However, Marvel Studios is looking to hire a director who hasn’t previously worked on a Marvel movie.

He’s also described the buzz surrounding Captain America: Brave New World as “not kind,” though this was arguably to be expected when the movie is set to undergo extensive reshoots this summer to fix its issues.

As for Blade, another seemingly troubled MCU movie, shooting is also scheduled to take place over the summer, this time in Mexico and not the UK as originally planned. It sounds like the story has been scaled back and is now just Mahershala Ali killing vampires. That sounds like a win to us.

You may recall scooper Daniel Richtman recently claiming Blade takes place in the present day, with Mia Goth playing Lilith and the plan being to set the stage for a Midnight Sons project (which still appears to be the case).

Talking of the leaker, he’s also said The Fantastic Four will feature two Silver Surfers. However, following yesterday’s report about Norrin Radd making an appearance, it’s since been revealed that Shalla-Bal will leave him behind, a major role reversal from the comics. He is eventually going to see him wield the Power Cosmic, though.

Sneider disputes the possibility of the reboot featuring two Surfers, but claims Javier Bardem remains Marvel Studios’ top pick to play Galactus.

As always, we’ll see what comes of all these claims because social media’s various scoopers tend to be a little hit-or-miss. However, both Sneider and Richtman have a decent track record and we’re particularly optimistic about Blade finally taking shape after endless delays.

Marvel Studios has announced that Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Thing) will lead The Fantastic Four cast. Julia Garner has also joined the reboot as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer.

Director Matt Shakman worked with both Avatar: The Way of Water co-writer Josh Friedman and WandaVision‘s Cam Squires on The Fantastic Four‘s screenplay, with Eric Pearson (Black Widow) recently coming on board for a final polish.

The movie is set to be released in theaters on July 25, 2025.
