Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Are Reportedly ‘Shocked’ Over the wild new Controversy Surrounding Daughter Lilibet’s Name

Before we get into this wild new controversy, here’s something that everyone needs to know going in:

Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Are Reportedly ‘Shocked’ Over the wild new Controversy Surrounding Daughter Lilibet’s Name

when you give birth to a baby in the British royal family, you have to abide by a few set rules for naming your child. Not only do you have to get the leading monarch’s approval, but you can only name the child after previous members’ names in the family. Despite people thinking everything was fine when Meghan Markle and Prince Harry named their daughter Lilibet Diana, one author claims Queen Elizabeth II was furious over the name.

In Robert Hardman’s book The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy, he alleges that Elizabeth was in a rage over the name decision. “One privately recalled that Elizabeth II had been ‘as angry as I’d ever seen her’ in 2021 after the Sussexes announced that she had given them her blessing to call their baby daughter ‘Lilibet,’ the Queen’s childhood nickname,” he claimed.

He added, “The couple had subsequently fired off warnings of legal action against anyone who dared to suggest otherwise, as the BBC had done. However, when the Sussexes tried to co-opt the Palace into propping up their version of events, they were rebuffed. Once again, it was a case of ‘recollections may vary’—the late Queen’s reaction to the Oprah Winfrey interview—as far as Her Majesty was concerned.”

Thus, a controversy ensued; and everyone is calling out Meghan and Harry (and they’re beyond shocked over this incident).

Meghan and Harry 100 percent got permission from the queen to use the name Lilibet,” an insider told Us Weekly. The report is not true. They don’t know where this is coming from. [They are] shocked that this is coming now; it seems out of nowhere and out of left field. They just feel like it’s more of the same smear campaign that continues against them.”

The insider added, “They feel it’s convenient [that] this is surfacing now when the queen is not here to defend herself and can’t say what is true or false.”

So here’s a bit of a refresher: her name Lilibet Diana comes from two women in the monarchy: Lilibet was Elizabeth II’s nickname as a child, and Diana was for the late Princess Diana. Also, multiple sources have backed up Harry and Meghan’s claim that they got Elizabeth’s blessing. So this is truly such a messy situation, and we don’t blame the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for wanting to keep their children away from the public eye as much as possible.

For those who don’t know, Harry and Meghan started dating in 2016 and by April 2018, they were married in a beautiful royal ceremony. They share two children together named Archie, born in May 2019, and Lilibet Diana, born in June 2021.
