Royal correspondent and author Valentine Low alleged that a “concerned” Prince of Wales tried unsuccessfully to meet with his brother after seeing a trailer for his ITV documentary.

In 2019, Prince William and Kate Middleton were taking part in their Pakistan tour, when a trailer for Harry and Meghan: An African Journey was released.

The clip showed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealing their struggles with royal life.

Valentine told Hello! that William tried to meet with Harry to have a heart-to-heart, but Harry declined.

He claimed: “When William and Kate had been in Pakistan, and the trailer for the ITV documentary about Harry and Meghan, in South Africa, was about to come out, that was the one when Meghan was quite clearly having a bad time and spoke about it.

“And it was very shocking. William came back from Pakistan and he was quite concerned about his brother, he was wondering what to do about it, and someone said to him, ‘Just go around there, go round to Frogmore Cottage.’

“So, he picked up the phone, which might have been a WhatsApp message. But yeah, I think he did speak to Harry and said he wants to come and see him.

“And Harry was initially kind of open to this idea, but then said to William, ‘Well, who are you going to tell if you come round?’

“William said, ‘Well, you know, I have to tell my private secretary, because I’ve got to change my diary.’

“And Harry said, ‘Right, well, in that case don’t come.’ Because he was so worried that once the staff knew, that it would leak. It was kind of heartbreaking.”

Valentine added that Harry could have been looking for an excuse to say “don’t come.”

Prince Harry needs to apologise. What he’s done to Charles and William is unacceptable
He added: “That’s certainly what someone has suggested, that this meeting would never have taken place. But you know, it’s still heartbreaking that they couldn’t have these moments.”

ITV’s royal documentary premiered on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at 9pm, with an hour long show following the famous couple’s tour of Africa.

News anchor Tom Bradby, who works on ITV News At Ten, spoke exclusively to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex as they explored the continent.

Viewers had behind the scenes access to the modern Royal couple and their then-baby son Archie in this programme.

In the documentary, Meghan revealed how she tried to adopt the Royal Family’s stiff upper lip — but found it “really damaging”.

The Duchess of Sussex said her attempt to ignore the media spotlight in the traditional royal manner only caused more unhappiness.

Your Prince Harry and Meghan Markle questions answered

She said: “You’ve got to thrive, you’ve got to feel happy. And I think I really tried to adopt the British sensibility of a stiff upper lip.

“I’ve tried but I think that what that does internally is probably really damaging.

“I never thought this would be easy. But I thought it would be fair and that’s the part that’s really hard to reconcile.

“But I do just take each day as it comes.”

Meanwhile, Harry admitted he and brother Wills have grown apart — saying: “We’re certainly on different paths.”

He added: “As brothers, you have good days, you have bad days.”

Harry said the pressure on the royals means “inevitably stuff happens”.

He continued: “But look, we’re brothers, we’ll always be brothers — and we’re certainly on different paths at the moment.

“But I’ll certainly always be there for him as I know he’ll always be there for me.”

Harry was asked if he worried whether Meghan may face the same pressures as his mum, the late Princess Diana, who died in 1997 in a car crash in Paris.

He said: “I will always protect my family, and now I have a family to protect.

“So everything that she [Diana] went through, and what happened to her, is incredibly important every single day, and that is not me being paranoid, that is just me not wanting a repeat of the past.”

Last month Harry flew to the UK to meet with his father King Charles for half an hour at Clarence House, in their first face-to-face encounter for 16 months.

He had flown thousands of miles from his California home to be at the King’s side following his cancer shock.

However, he only saw his father for 30 minutes before he flew to Sandringham for rest following his diagnosis.

And he did not meet with William following years of attacks by Harry on Oprah, Netflix and in his autobiography Spare.
