Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary were left in hysterics on This Morning as they introduced an American couple claiming to be in a throuple with a Welsh ghost.

Tuesday’s episode of the ITV show saw ‘clairvoyant’ Rebekah Carmichael and her girlfriend, ghost hunter Katharyn, delve deep into their relationship with ghost Rupert.

Standing at 6ft 6in with blond hair and blue eyes, Rupert is claimed to have been a member of the British Army in pre-revolution America.

Rebekah said the relationship began one day in 2020 in North Carolina when Rupert approached her, concerned that she was walking alone, outside the house he would have been at in 1781. From there, she said, romance blossomed.

‘There’s three in the bed but one of them is dead,’ Alison began as she introduced the pair, prompting a snigger from Dermot.

‘Find out how the ghost of a Welshman became the third wheel in an American couple’s relationship,’ she added. ‘Yes, we’re serious.’

Dermot said: ‘Exactly what could possess you to go anywhere else,’ before the duo burst into fits of giggles.

They returned after the break to speak to Rebekah and Katharyn about their unconventional home life.

Alison said: ‘In the United States, a couple Rebekah Carmichael and Katharyn are waiting to tell us all about a mysterious man who has become the third person in their relationship.’

‘He’s called Rupert, he’s from Wales and he’s a ghost,’ Dermot said.

After meeting in 2020, Rebekah said a bond formed between herself and Rupert over time. She later met Katharyn and the pair began a relationship.

But Rupert was already in the picture, so part of the dating stage for the couple was for Katharyn to establish the ghost’s existence.

Katharyn is a paranormal investigator, known as a ghost hunter, and claimed that through a variety of techniques they managed to catch Rupert – convincing her that he was real.

Rebekah said she considers the throuple to be a polyamorous relationship as she shares connections with both – but it appears that Katharyn and Rupert are strictly platonic.

Katharyn said that she does hang out with Rupert alone however, and they chat and joke about history and their upbringings.

Speaking to Rebekah, Alison and Dermot asked if Rupert had joined them for the interview – as there appeared to be an extra chair laid out.

‘He’s here in spirit,’ she replied.

The couple have also had AI create an image of what tall, blonde, blue-eyed Rupert would look like if he could be seen by the naked eye – and the presenters noticed he bore a striking resemblance to This Morning’s Dr Scott Miller.

As the segment closed, the presenters moved across to Dr Scott and reiterated that he is Rupert’s double.

‘You absolutely look like Rupert,’ Alison joked, before Scott cheekily raised his eyebrows and asked if her and Dermot were interested in being in a throuple.

This Morning viewers took to X, formerly Twitter, to share their thoughts on the American throuple.

They wrote: ‘Who’s got a blonde blue eyed 6’6 dead granddad called Rupert I need to know if this man acc existed;’ (sic)

‘Each to their own but that was the weirdest interview I think I’ve seen for a long time;’

‘They are surely hiring actors now and inventing this stuff? This pair are probably in the studio next door. This is too far beyond to be real;’

‘I’m just not having it that any 18th century Welsh man was called Rupert;’

‘These moments leave me speechless. They really do.’

Turning their attention to the presenters, one person said: ‘@AlisonHammond @radioleary I don’t know how you’ve both just kept a straight face, you deserve an award.’
