Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly have been dealt a huge blow as ITV has axed one of their shows.

ITV has reportedly decided to put the South African version of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! on hold, even though it enjoyed a successful run. The show, which was an addition to the traditional Australian season, captivated audiences who were thrilled to see their favourite celebs face the Bushtucker trials once again.

The spin-off boasted a lineup of both former and current stars, including Helen Flanagan, Phil Tufnell, and Joe Swash, with Myleene Klass ultimately being crowned as the ultimate ‘legend’ at the series’ conclusion.

Unlike the live Australian version, the series was pre-recorded, eliminating public votes and audience interaction. Instead, the celebrity campmates’ fates were determined by trials that dictated who would be voted out next.

However, ITV insiders have now hinted that there won’t be another season of the spin-off anytime soon. A source told The Sun: “ITV have decided I’m A Celebrity South Africa will not return this year and there are currently no plans for another series.

It may well return in the future so it’s not necessarily gone for good, but it definitely won’t be happening this year and there is nothing set in stone for when it will be,” the source added.

“This will come as a disappointment to fans as Ant and Dec had previously hinted that it would be back and it was expected that it would be an annual thing.” An ITV spokesperson confirmed that the spin-off show was “one of the biggest entertainment shows of the year”, attracting up to 5.2 million viewers during its run. However, they made it clear that there were never any plans for the show to make a comeback in 2024.

After wrapping up filming in South Africa at the end of 2022 with a star-studded cast, the show didn’t hit the airwaves until April 2023. The latest series had a strong following, with millions regularly tuning in. Nonetheless, some viewers expressed their disappointment upon discovering the show was pre-recorded, which meant they couldn’t shape the outcome through live voting.

In a nail-biting finale that had audiences squirming in front of their screens, Klass went head-to-head with Diversity’s Jordan Banjo in a gruesome eating challenge. The daring duo faced down a menu that included 60 mouse tails and 40 spoonfuls of fermented tofu, all for the chance to be crowned the ultimate champion.

Ultimately, it was Myleene who clinched the win after a titanic tussle with the ballroom dancer, while ex-Olympian Fatima Whitbread came third. Myleene glowed about her success, saying: “The first time round, I wasn’t a mum so there was no jeopardy if I ran around the jungle for a few weeks in a white bikini.

“I had a ball the first time, but they say don’t go back to an ex and don’t go back to a reheated dinner. The jungle back in Australia gave me my family, gave me my work, gave me my career – I wanted to go to the bush as I wanted to say thank you for what the jungle has given me.”
