It had been a successful year for both of them as Zara strutted her stuff on Strictly Come Dancing.

Speaking to Gaby Roslin on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, Zara said: “Who knows, you never know what’s going to happen. I don’t know if I could follow his crowning. How could I ever follow that?”

Zara was competing in Strictly at the time of Sam’s win, when asked how she felt watching him on-screen, she said: “The end of Strictly and the jungle overlapped so I couldn’t go but his best friend Pete went out there. It was lovely for them to have that moment.”

This comes after Zara hit back at the expectations placed on women by society.

During an interview with Hello! magazine, Zara was asked if she and Sam were going to tie the knot.

“I think there’s this expectation that people need to get married, have kids, this fairy-tale experience. Nowadays, women are so much more than people to marry and child-bearers!” she replied.

“I’m an independent career woman. I’ll do these things when I’m ready, not when society tells me to do them. I don’t think relationships should be put in a box.

“I absolutely do not want children anytime soon – right now I’m happy to be selfish.”

She said that she and Sam struggle to have time together as it is due to their busy schedules.

The documentary maker added that they both love their ‘fur babies’ and that is enough for them at the moment.

Zara has been working on her new BBC show  Ibiza: Secrets of the Party Island where she looks into the darker side of the hot spot.

Zara, 27, is no stranger to a summer holiday – or an influencer brand trip – on the Mediterranean Island, having worked in the public eye since 2018 and visited the island repeatedly.

Having showcased the glitz and glamour of life in Ibiza, she’s aware she’s been part of a problem that encourages youngsters to flock there and splash, and flash, their cash.

But with an increased amount of organised crime – from high-worth watch theft to the trade of pink cocaine, which often isn’t even made up of the Class A drug – there are reasons to be wary.

She says: “The island has a little piece of my heart – if you go down my Instagram feed, you will see plenty of photos of me in Ibiza over the years – I’ve been there before as an influencer.

“But I’ve noticed Ibiza is elevating – now you can be in the same area next to big A list celebrities, and that’s a big draw – to be able to rub shoulders with these people, and have a taste of luxury.

“On social media, it looks accessible, it looks like it’s easy for everybody to enjoy this lifestyle – with its VIP culture, but actually, you could break the bank if you’re not careful.

“There’s a cycle going on there, with so many people out there showcasing the dream of this island of beautiful people, but we are all – including me – part of this selling machine.”
