Line of Duty ran on BBC One for nine years from 2012 until 2021, and was a hugely popular show.

Martin became a household name playing DI Steve Arnott, a police officer working in the anti-corruption unit AC-12.

Now, the actor has teased that EastEnders star Danny Dyer would make a great addition to the show as a “bent copper”.

He told The Mirror: “Danny Dyer would be a great shout [as a ‘bent copper’ on the show].

“Danny is something else, honestly, he is one of our treasures.

“He is a wonderful actor — it would be good to see him in there.”

Giving an update on the future of Line of Duty, Martin added: “I’m sorry.

“They’re some of my closest friends, we all love Jed [Mercurio], and we’d all love to work together at some point, but there are no immediate plans.

“It’s just getting us all together and stuff. We’d like to but, yeah, these things are a bit complicated.

“But there are no immediate plans.”

Adrian Dunbar thrills Line of Duty fans with VERY promising update about new series on BBC Breakfast
Meanwhile, earlier this year actor Adrian Dunbar was on BBC Breakfast where he was grilled about Line of Duty making a comeback.

The actor is known for playing Superintendent Ted Hastings on the hit show.

Host Naga Munchetty asked him: “I’m just going to ask it. I think, most of the cast are keen for another one, but you haven’t heard any news?

“I mean Vicki texted me yesterday ”I’m about to do loads of press for Trigger Point, but I know the only thing I’ll be asked is are we about to do Line Of Duty again? And the answer is we don’t know.

“We’d love too, because the last time we did it, it was in lockdown.

“And so we couldn’t get out, we couldn’t have fun. So we were kind of robbed the experience of working together again.

“And so we’d really like to do it again. but you know, at the moment, we don’t know.”
