According to Deadline, the tragic news was announced by K-Love, the Christian radio network.“Mandisa loved Jesus, and she used her unusually extensive platform to talk about Him at every turn,” detailed David Pierce, K-Love Chief Media Officer. “Her kindness was epic, her smile electric, her voice massive, but it was no match for the size of her heart.”

She was found in her Nashville home, according to an Instagram post. A cause of death has not been confirmed.

“Mandisa struggled, and she was vulnerable enough to share that with us, which helped us talk about our own struggles,” Pierce added. “Mandisa’s struggles are over. She is with the God she sang about now. While we are saddened, Mandisa is home. We’re praying for Mandisa’s family and friends and ask you to join us.”

The singer was born Mandisa Hundley in California and finished in the top 10 in the aforementioned season of American Idol in 2006. She continued to release her debut album, True Beauty, the following year.

In 2013, Mandisa released the album Overcomer, which resulted in Christian radio success for songs including “Stronger” and “My Deliverer.” The album would eventually win the Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.

VIBE sends our condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Mandisa.
