MASTERCHEF was thrown into chaos after one of the contestants sliced the top of her finger off.

Just minutes after the show’s opening, the vegan home cook slipped with her knife.

Charlotte, 42, was told by Gregg Wallace that her spicy dish sounded “exciting”.

She said how she found cooking “therapeutic” after a “long stressful day at work”.

“Vegan food isn’t just about hemp seeds and chickpeas,” she joked.

As she set to work making her dumplings, she said: “I need to go as fast as I can do all the stuff I need to.”

But she might have been going a little too fast and cut her finger.

Holding her wound as it poured with blood, she looked panicked as she told the film crew she’d cut herself and needed a plaster.

John Torode rushed over and said: “I’m sorry to say this, but you’ve actually cut the top of your finger off.”

The TV chef pointed at her chopping board, which had the missing chunk of her finger.

Speaking to the camera, John said: “Sadly charlotte has cut herself and she’s had to leave the MasterChef kitchen for medical attention so she won’t be finishing off her dish.”

Fans were left feeling queasy after the accident, with one writing: “Did they have to show us the top of her finger cut off?”

Another said: “I was not prepared for someone chopping the end of their finger off in the first 30seconds of #MasterChef tonight.”

“Charlotte cooking with a bit of claret. Good bloody start,” wrote a third.

“Vegan food can be really exciting! *immediately chops own finger into the meal*” added another.
