Akira Toriyama made some huge changes to Broly in the Dragon Ball Super movie. Here, he was shown to be caring, well-mannered, and just a bit confused with the powers he has. In contrast, Broly in the Dragon Ball Z trilogy was shown to be homicidal with an unforgivable bloodlust. Moreover, Super Broly also didn’t share the hate for Goku as his counterpart and that made for some brilliant character development.

In Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Broly Snaps

When Broly was born, King Vegeta felt threatened by the baby’s incredible amount of strength. Broly had limitless potential and the king couldn’t risk having someone that strong around because it would undermine his own bloodline. Gohan Beast and Broly are standout fighters, but there’s a clear winner when it comes to strength and skills – especially after DBS Chapter 103.

When Broly was banished from Planet Vegeta, he found himself on Vampa, a planet inhibiting some beastly creatures, although none of them posed a threat to Broly. As a kid, Broly’s powers were highly unstable which meant he was seen killing countless of Vampa’s creatures in order to survive and ease his anger.

Thankfully, he was found by his father, Paragus, and there began his training to contain his seemingly unstoppable energy. Broly also made friends with one of Vampa’s beasts and named him Ba, but Paragus killed that little creature.

Broly didn’t need rescuing from Planet Vampa because he considered it to be his home but when the Frieza Force came calling, it was very hard for Paragus to reject the offer. Furthermore, Paragus wanted revenge on King Vegeta for what he did and one Saiyan from his bloodline, Vegeta, was living on Earth.

So he keeps a remote device with him every day that can be used to trigger a shock in Broly’s body, thanks to the collar Broly wears on his neck. Broly doesn’t like the collar at all, and at the sight of the remote, he starts panicking, breathing heavily, showing signs of trauma. This reaction shows that Broly feels like an animal who is being chained.

Broly didn’t just overwhelm Goku but he came close to defeating him to the point where Goku had to flee the scene. Just like Vegeta, Goku tested all his transformations against Broly before going Super Saiyan God.

He gave Broly a tougher fight than Vegeta, all things considered, but his God form was being torn apart. He got absolutely battered and had no choice but to go for Super Saiyan Blue. This transformation allowed Goku to match Broly’s ever-increasing strength.

3Why Did Frieza Kill Paragus?

This was another sadistic moment where Frieza proved that he is the cruelest being in the Dragon Ball Universe. Broly and Super Saiyan Blue Goku were having an even fight and Paragus commented that Goku might win as things stand. In order to get a strong emotion out of Broly, Frieza killed Paragus with his signature Death Beam. As a result, Broly lost it and transformed into a Super Saiyan.

When Broly was born, his power was limitless and as he entered into adulthood, his strength became near uncontrollable. The reason why he is so strong is because of his rare genes (found in Saiyans) that allow him to transform into what is called the Legendary Super Saiyan. In this form, he loses his golden hair in favor a green-colored look and his body basically doubles in size as his strength increases every second that he battles his opponent. His uncontrollable strength can be calmed, and Goku offered to help him with that control when the dust settled.
