One Piece: Every Shichibukai Member, Ranked By Height

Gecko Moria, Jinbe and Boa Hancock

HIGHLIGHTS

Size isn’t everything in One Piece – smaller characters like Luffy and Hancock pack a powerful punch.

Characters in the Shichibukai can vary greatly in size, with some surprisingly tall ones like Jinbe and Crocodile.
Unique abilities, not height, determine strength in One Piece – characters like Law and Buggy prove this point.

In the world of One Piece, a person’s size can give little to no indication as to how strong they actually are. Sure, there may be a few unstoppable behemoths in the story, such as Kaido and Big Mom, but there have also been much smaller characters, such as Luffy and even Chopper for example, who still have more than a few powerful abilities hidden up their sleeves. Because of this, it means author Eiichiro Oda can get pretty creative with his character designs since they don’t need to fit a particular mould in order to be strong, and there’s no better example of this than the Shichibukai.

This rag-tag group of pirates have allied with the World Government in order to evade being arrested while taking down any pirates they come across in exchange. Each of these mysterious pirates is drastically different, not only in their abilities, but especially their appearances, and when it comes to height, here’s how each of them stack up.

11Trafalgar Law

Height: 6′ 3″

One Piece Trafalgar Law Ope Ope no Mi

Despite being one of the smallest members of the Shichibukai, Law has still proven he’s just as strong as his peers and is capable of literally dissecting his enemies thanks to his unique Op Ope no Mi Devil Fruit. In fact, though the likes of Moria and Kuma tower over Law, he is still considered very tall for a human, which goes to show how enormous some of the Warlords really are in comparison.

Law became a member of the Shichibukai at some point during the two-year timeskip, and though he didn’t don the label for long, he did still build up quite an infamous reputation as a dangerous pirate throughout this period. How Law would actually match up in a fight with most other Shichibukai is uncertain, but even though he may be smaller, this isn’t much of a disadvantage, considering how powerful this captain is in a fight.

10Boa Hancock

Height: 6′ 3″

Most powerful characters in One Piece will use their size to their advantage in a battle, but Hancock is a little different. Though she’s no stranger to beating the life out of her opponents if she needs to, Hancock will often try and use her elegant beauty to freeze her enemies to their core, defeating them before the fight has even begun.

As a result, being a smaller Shichibukai member doesn’t affect Hancock, especially since she usually prefers to beat her enemies down to the ground before looking down at them. Hancock’s size also favors her lighting-fast fighting style, which involves a lot of sudden maneuvers and attacks to throw her opponent off guard.

9Buggy

Height: 6′ 4″

Buggy using his knives to attack

Throughout the long story of One Piece, Buggy has slowly risen up the ranks from a petty captain to a fearsome Emperor of the Sea who has proven that he’s much more than a clumsy pirate with a silly Devil Fruit. Part of the reason why this has happened is because Buggy can’t be cut since his body can always be reconnected, but when all of his pieces are together, he’s nowhere near as tall as some of the other warlords.

Still, this hasn’t stopped Buggy from wreaking havoc across the seas, sometimes by his own hands, but through his subordinates, who will follow his every command until the end. Buggy is another example of a character who may seem inconsequential on the surface, but who, underneath it all, is a fairly strong and competent individual who can deal some real damage if they need to.

8Dracule Mihawk

Height: 6′ 6″

Dracule Mihawk fighting in the War of Marineford.

Mihawk is the first Shichibukai the Staw Hats ever see at the beginning of the story, and it’s fair to say he makes quite an impression on his debut. Even though Mihawk does eventually cut Zoro down to size with nothing more than a butter knife, it’s important that his arrival isn’t some big and grandiose spectacle, which is designed to shows off his unlimited power.

Instead, Mihawk is simply a tall man on a tiny boat who’s roaming across the sea, looking for a worthy challenge. It’s a great way to subvert expectations after the Shichibukai had been hyped up so much only moments before, and it’s also a reminder that not everyone in this universe needs to be big in order to actually be strong.

7Crocodile

Height: 8′ 4″

One Piece Crocodile Defeated Arabasta

Crocodile is often considered to be the most relaxed and carefree Shichibukai of the bunch, but there’s also something extremely intimidating about him, just from his appearance alone. Part of this comes from his devilish grin and the glossy golden hook in place of his left hand, but it’s also due to his enormous size, which is far bigger than most regular humans in the series.

Somehow, Crocodile even managed to find giant trench coats that fit his size, which also goes a long way in presenting him as a larger-than-life mafia boss. When he’s not burying his enemies in sand, Crocodile has shown he’s not against getting his hands dirty in a one-on-one fight, and as shown with Luffy, his size can often be a problem when he does decide to take a battle seriously.

6Jinbe

Height: 9′ 11″

Jinbe

It’s hard to imagine nowadays because of how far he’s come, but there was once a time in the story when Jinbe, also known as the “Knight of the Sea,” was a valuable member of the Shichibukai. Unlike a lot of the other wardogs though, Jinbei didn’t sign up out of greed or the desire to rule over a country. Instead, he wanted to prove that Fishmen and the government were able to work as one in an attempt to carry on Fisher Tiger’s dream.

Jinbe is one of the strongest living Fishmen in the story of One Piece, and despite his size, he’s deceptively fast on his feet and is capable of throwing one hell of a punch thanks to his expertise in Fishman Karate. Anyone who knows Jinbe will be well aware that he’s a peaceful and kind-hearted character, but he can seem a little intimidating at first glance.

5Donquixote Doflamingo

Height: 10′

Donquixote Doflamingo

It can be easy to forget how tall Doflamingo actually is since he can often be seen slouching over or crouched down, but when he stands upright, it’s truly a terrifying sight. His size honestly works in his favor, since Doflamingo is accustomed to looking down on his enemies, both physically and metaphorically, so it helps that pretty much everyone who goes against him in the story is smaller than he is, especially Luffy, who looks like an ant when standing next to this infamous warlord.

Thanks to Doflamingo’s Ito Ito no Mi fruit, it doesn’t matter how large he is, he will still be able to glide through the air without breaking a sweat thanks to his strings which lend him some extra maneuverability. He’s, therefore, a tricky pirate to pin down, and one who should never be taken lightly.

4Blackbeard

Height: 11′ 3″

Blakbeard is another character who was only a temporary Shichibukai member, as he used the position to break out multiple criminals from Impel Down in order to form his own crew. It goes without saying that Blackbeard is an absurdly powerful character, having control of two of the strongest Devil Fruits in the series, and his size certainly reflects this.

Blackbeard is enormous, to the point where he even managed to look tall when standing next to the mighty Whitebeard, who might aswell be considered a giant himself. There aren’t many characters in One Piece more intimidating than Blackbeard, and his menacing size definitely factors into why he’s so feared.

3Edward Weevil

Height: 22′ 4″

Edward Weevil one piece characters who will join cross guild

Edward Weevil is a gigantic character in the world of One Piece, but then again, nothing less would be expected from the supposed “Son” of the great late Whitebeard. Not much is known about Weevil, but what has been made crystal clear is he will gladly use his large stature to crush anyone who gets in his way, or at least, anyone whom his mother claims to be a threat.

Though he possesses an insatiable hunger for violence and chaos, Weevil ultimately answers to his mother, who guides her son into battle. Therefore, while he might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, Weevil would prefer to let his fists do the talking anyway.

2Bartholomew Kuma

Height: 22′ 7″

Kuma

Kuma is roughly the same height as Weevil, but unlike his counterpart, he doesn’t use his body to annihilate his opponents in combat. Instead, Kuma is able to use his paw to teleport the enemy to a random location, meaning he barely even has to swing his arm to take someone out. This was seen during the Straw Hat’s emotional encounter with Kuma at the end of Sabaody, where the latter effortlessly took care of them all with nothing more than a few swipes.

Kuma’s formidable size does still make him extremely durable though, and capable of taking more than a few heavy hits before falling on his back. Out of all the Shichibukai, Kuma is the one whose height is the most surprising, but it’s nonetheless become a defining characteristic that has helped to make him such a memorable character.

1Gecko Moria

Height: 22′ 8″

Gecko Moria

Ironically, even though Moria is officially the tallest warlord of the sea, he’s also the laziest and most cowardly. Moria isn’t exactly much of a fighter, but his unique ability to steal people’s shadows is so overpowered that it makes him a massive threat.

It’s worth remembering that Moria was once engaged in a bloody conflict with Kaido and lived to tell the tale, which proves that he’s big enough to at least have survived a beating from the Yonko himself. If Moria had a better idea of how to use his body in combat, he would undoubtedly be much more dangerous and quite intimidating, but as it stands, he’s too unconcerned to really ever be taken seriously.
