One Piece theory reveals the real reason behind Roronoa Zoro’s missing left eye.
Zoro’s left eye, which has been closed for a while now, has had many theories developed around it. He first appeared with a missing left eye in One Piece after completing his training with Mihawk during the time skip. Some fans believe that he was injured during his training with Mihawk, while some believe he keeps it shut so that he can improve his precision.
Zoro’s Missing Eye
Knowing Eiichiro Oda’s habit of foreshadowing, One Piece fans think his left eye has some kind of significance that will be revealed later on to enhance his character in some way. Zoro perfected almost all of his abilities when he was training with Mihawk. He was not only able to polish his swordsman skills but also learn the Haki abilities.
Zoro is a master of all Haki techniques except the Observation Haki. Although he can use it to an extent, it is not as good as Luffy or Sanji. There is one theory that links Zoro’s Observation Haki with his left eye.
Zoro’s Struggle With Observation Haki
The Swordsman of the Straw Hat Pirates has perfected almost every feat of strength there is in One Piece. His swordsmanship was already one of the best in the series, and after training for two years with Dracule Mihawk at the Kuraigana Island, Zoro was even able to use major Haki abilities that added a big power-up for him.
Zoro can use almost every Haki technique there is in One Piece. He is a master of Armament Haki as he showcased during the Dressrosa arc, when he cut Pica into pieces. He was able to use Conqueror’s Haki unintentionally during his fight with Kaido in Onigashima. He can even use the advanced version of Conqueror’s Haki, which helped him defeat King.
Roronoa Zoro – One Piece
However, Zoro’s Observation Haki skills are not as good as his other skills. Although he can use it to some extent, it is not as strong as Luffy or Sanji’s. He can use it to sense attacks and power levels of his opponents, but he can’t use it for any other feats, like Future Sight.
One Piece Theory Claims Zoro Injured His Left Eye To Strengthen His Observation Haki
According to a theory posted by u/Rimaru482 on Reddit, Zoro intentionally injured his left eye to strengthen his Observation Haki skills. It has been proven in One Piece that losing the sense of sight can help with the focus and precision of Observation Haki. The perfect example of this in One Piece is Admiral Fujitora, who fought the Straw Hats during the Dressrosa arc.
Fujitora – One Piece
Admiral Fujitora is blind and he has stated that his Observation Haki skills compensate for his lack of sight. This also happens in real life, when a blind person’s other senses increase to compensate for their absence of vision. Also, when Luffy was training with Rayleigh during the time skip, he used to be blindfolded to improve his Observation Haki.
Since the revelation of Haki techniques in One Piece, Zoro has been struggling with Observation Haki, there is a high chance that he decided to become partially blind so that he can have a better focus on his Observation Haki skills. Although his Observation Haki may not have become as good as Luffy or Sanji’s, it still gets the job done.
