Nami’s Sorcery Clima-Tact upgrades, like Zeus integration, elevate her fighting prowess significantly.

From devil fruit powers to martial arts and even laser beams, every member of One Piece’s Straw Hat pirates has their own unique way of fighting. Even those who are not part of the main offensive line, such as Nami and Usopp, are more than capable of protecting themselves while beating down mid-to-low-level opponents.

However, unlike the other Straw Hats that can fight with their bare hands, Nami and Usopp rely heavily on their custom-made weapons. Nami with her Clima-Tact, and Usopp with his Kabuto. Out of the two, Nami’s Clima-Tact is the one that has seen quite a few major upgrades. So let’s use this chance to dive deeper into this fascinating weapon.

So many things are happening in Egghead that it begs the question; is the story moving too fast?

The Clima-Tact

The Clima-Tact is a weapon that takes advantage of Nami’s extensive knowledge of meteorology. To make it easier for Nami to get used to this new weapon, Usopp made the Clima-Tact in the form of Nami’s original weapon, a long pole.

Origin Story

Usuopp Bulding Clima tact

The Clima-Tact came in the form of three short poles, each about the length of the forearm. These poles can be combined to make a full-length pole. Unlike Nami’s original wooden staff, however, this one was made out of hollow but durable blue steel. Each of the short poles had a button that allowed it to create air bubbles with different properties. The first short pole created a hot air bubble, the second one created a cold air bubble, and the third one created an electric air bubble. Interestingly enough, the Clima-Tact was originally designed as a party piece. This means Usopp put a heavy emphasis on gimmicks and showmanship rather than actual combat capability.

Signature Attacks

Nami fighting Miss Doublefinger in the Arabasta Arc

These are some of the signature attacks from the first generation of the Clima-Tact:

Mirage Tempo: Nami uses the cold pole to produce a large amount of super cold air bubbles. The extreme temperature difference between the air bubbles and Arabasta’s hot and dry environment enables Nami to produce an illusion of herself. A mirage.
Cyclone Tempo: Nami puts the heat pole and the cold pole to make an X-shaped pole, puts it at the top of the electric pole, and uses it to swing the X toward the enemy like a boomerang, producing hot and cold air in the process. Upon contact, it will release a massive burst of wind that knocks out everybody in its vicinity.
Thunderbolt Tempo: Nami creates a mini cloud by blowing hot and cold air bubbles into the sky, which trigger rapid changes in temperature, moisture, and condensation. After that, she launches an electric air bubble into the cloud, which instantly causes a lightning strike that will descend upon her enemies.

1st Major Upgrade: Perfect Clima-Tact

One Piece Nami Perfect Clima Tact

First Appearance
Episode 258

Release Date
March 5, 2006

The first major upgrade to Nami’s Clima-Tact happened right after the Skypiea arc. Usopp realized that the Clima-Tact that he designed as nothing more than a glorified party piece had become an integral part of Nami’s fighting style. So he decided that the time had come to give the Clima-Tact a much-needed upgrade. One that focused more on combat.

Origin Story

One Piece 10 Strongest Weapons In The Series Ranked Dials

One of the best things about Sky Island is its unique tools called “Dials”. From storing sound and voices to releasing stored kinetic energy, there are so many different dials with lots of interesting and useful functions. Usopp integrated various dials into the second iteration of the Clima-Tact. This new weapon was purposely built from the ground up to fully support and complement Nami’s combat style and preferences. Unlike the first gen, the short poles in the Perfect Clima-Tact were equipped with a ball-like object with dials inside. Usopp never specified what kind of dials he used, but one thing’s for sure, it significantly increased the power output and ease of use.

Signature Attacks

Thunder_Lance_Tempo

These are some of the new signature attacks that Nami has often used with her Perfect Clima-Tact:

Swing Arm: A short-range swing attack with the electrically charged Clima-Tact. Upon impact, the pole will send the charged electricity to the opponent’s body, which will knock them out cold.
Mirage Tempo Fata Morgana:Nami produces several mirages at the same time, each with different features and characteristics. The mirages can also mimic the movement of the original body, which makes it that much harder for the opponents to differentiate between reality and illusions.
Thunder Lance Tempo: Nami creates a mini cloud that has been fully charged with electricity and then compresses it inside her Clima-Tact. After that, she performs the same movement as the Swing Arm. Once connected, a bolt of lightning will pierce through the enemy’s body.

One Piece might be aimed toward a younger audience, but the series is filled with complex real-world themes to dissect.

2nd Major Upgrade: Sorcery Clima-Tact

Nami Clima-Tact (One Piece)

First Appearance

Episode 517

Release Date
October 2, 2011

The next major upgrade happened after the two-year time skip. This upgrade will focus on functionality, durability, and ease of use. After all, while the Perfect Clima-Tact was a great weapon, Nami could still feel some kickbacks whenever she used certain attacks. No such thing happened with the new one.

Origin Story

Usopp (One Piece)

During the two-year skip, Nami stayed on an artificial sky island called Weatheria where she expanded her knowledge of meteorology. Likewise, Usopp also improved his botanical knowledge during his stay at the highly dangerous Greenstone Island. Usopp brought some useful souvenirs from the Greenstone, which were the seeds of various strange and special plants that he found on the island. For this new version of Clima-Tact, Usopp used a special material to build the body of the long pole. Thanks to this, the Clima-Tact has become easier to use and to carry around while looking much sleeker and simpler than the previous ones.

Signature Attacks

One Piece Nami Sorcery Clima-Tact Thunder Lance Tempo

Here are some of the new signature moves that can only be done with the Sorcery Clima-Tact:

Gust Sword: Nami can easily use any of the short poles to instantly create air bubbles that will pop and produce a sudden and massive gust of wind that can push back or even knock down anybody in its path, just like the thrust of a sword.
Milky Road: With the new Sorcery Clima-Tact and her extensive knowledge of meteorology, Nami can now produce clouds of any size, shape, and thickness with ease. She can use this ability to create anything from a comfortable sofa to a massive wall to a highway that floats above the ocean.
Weather Egg: This ability allows Nami to create a cloud egg about the size of an ostrich egg. She can put any kind of air bubbles inside the egg, and hatch them at will. The most common way to use the Weather Egg is by loading it up with electric bubbles to create the Thunder Breed Tempo.

Sorcery Clima-Tact Special Upgrades

One Piece Clima-Tact

Throughout the series, the Sorcery Clima-Tact has received several special upgrades. Usopp is responsible for some of the upgrades, while the other is an upgrade that accidentally happened.

Sorcery Clima-Tact 2.0: Grow Up

First Appearance
Episode 776

Release Date
February 12, 2017

Usopp gave Nami the first special upgrade when they were in Zou. This special upgrade was made out of Usopp’s Pop Greens plant. Since this is a plant that can instantly grow to dozens of meters high, the Sorcery Clima-Tact made out of this plant also inherits the same property. In its standby mode, it looks like an arm-length pole. But all it needs is a squeeze to turn the short pole into a long pole. The harder it gets squeezed, the longer it becomes. There’s no mention of the limit of how long the pole can grow.

Sorcery Clima-Tact 2.1: Zeus

First Appearance
Episode 1037

Release Date
October 23, 2022

The second upgrade happened purely out of a happy coincidence. During the Whole Cake Island arc, Nami manages to befriend Zeus, a living thundercloud made by Big Mom’s power. However, it wasn’t until the Raid on Onigashima happened that Nami was finally able to snatch Zeus away from the former Emperor of the Sea. Nowadays, Zeus’ soul is embedded within Nami’s Sorcery Clima-Tact. Thanks to this, Nami has gained a tremendous boost in offensive power.

This is a comprehensive look into the evolution of Nami’s Clima-Tact. What started as Usopp’s side project to help out his trusted comrade has now become one of the most iconic weapons in the series. And now that she has Zeus as her loyal pet, Nami has become a force to be reckoned with among the Straw Hats crew.
