Celtics great Kevin Garnett has become a huge fan of Victor Wembanyama.

Steph Curry and Victor Wembanyama

Kevin Garnett, in a recent episode of “KG Certified” with Paul Pierce, shared his thoughts on San Antonio Spurs rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama. The rookie has turned heads this season with his impressive performances, and according to KG, he might have the same influence as Steph Curry.

Garnett believes that Wemby has the potential to start a new revolution to the center position in the game, just like how Steph Curry did with the three-point shot. He also compared him to another great, two-time Finals MVP, Kevin Durant.

You remember when Steph Curry started shooting the long ball, and everybody was like “ooh and ah.” He’s brought a different mix, a different effect to the center spot. Not only is he moving and growing the game, but he making the five damn near look like the three. Wemby is damn near KD in the five. He's bringing a dynamic to the five that if you can't slide or move your feet, it's gonna be hard.

Kevin Garnett said about Victor Wembanyama

The Hall of Famer knows what it takes to be a great player in a league as competitive as the NBA. He sees Victor Wembanyama as a player who would become more explosive as he progresses and understands the league better.

However, Wemby still has a long way to go, but with how he has taken off, if the Spurs can build a strong roster around him, the NBA should expect great things from the best-drafted player in recent years. This season, he is averaging 21.0 PPG, 10.5 RPG, 3.6 APG, and a league-high 3.4 BPG.

Kevin Garnett in awe of Victor Wembanyama’s movement

Kevin Garnett on the Ticket and The Truth podcast, talked about a game where the Frenchman turned an OKC Thunder defender and finished off majestically with a scoop shot. And according to KG, that move wasn’t a typical Center’s move.

That ain't 7'6'' movement. Man, Yao Ming moving like a big a** oak tree when he moves. Shaq was roving through, man, big mother fu**** who 7'1'' bro, walking through them like an oak tree, bumping into sh**. Aye, Wemby, I want to see you in a salsa competition, my dude. Garnett told his former teammate, Paul Pierce, that Wembanyama, as an elite scorer, can lead a team to success as he can look like a multi-faceted player with solid offensive and defensive skills. Wemby has dramatically improved his game under the tutelage of veteran head coach Gregg Popovich, evident by when he played his first game and the confidence he is oozing out now. Recently, he led the Spurs to a 130-126 win against the New York Knicks, where he scored a career-high 40 points, 20 rebounds, and seven assists.
