1WHAT HAPPENED?

In the 11th minute, the Argentine was put through on a lovely through ball, but Nashville goalkeeper Elliot Panico tremendously saved his initial shot. The ball, however, was not cleared and, after a bit of chaos in the box, it landed back at Messi’s feet and he could not miss this time.

Sergio Busquets then stepped up, seemingly reading the mind of his longtime teammate, making a perfect near-post run off a corner kick to head home for his first MLS goal since his 2023 arrival.

3THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Herons conceded just three minutes into the game off a Dan Lovtiz corner kick for Nashville. The ball deflected off Miami’s Franco Negri and into the back of the net, with the own goal giving the guests the early lead.

Messi’s response, however, was sensational. The Argentine gave them the confidence boost they needed after a wobbly start to the match.

He followed it up with the sensational assist for Busquets, turning the match around for the South Beach club.
