Victor Wembanyama continues to adapt to the NBA level in a slow and steady manner.
Victor Wembanyama spoils 61-point outing by Jalen Brunson
The Victor Wembanyama saga continued tonight with an unreal performance against the New York Knicks. His all-around game denied Jalen Brunson getting a win from his 61-point performance. This game also highlighted the potential of what Wembanyama could do in the coming years.
The two leading superstars of the matchup were on different game plans. Jalen Brunson dominated the game by scoring point after point en route to finishing with 61 points. However, Victor Wembanyama outperformed everyone with his display of skills. He kept grabbing rebound after rebound and scored timely baskets. The difference was that Brunson looked to dominate the game with his one-on-one skills. However, the 7′ 4″ center preferred to take shots only when he had a clear play.
The stark differences showed up in the end-of-game stats. Brunson got to that unreal number by attempting 47 shots. His game primarily focused on isolation plays to get the bucket. Wembanyama, in contrast, assisted his teammates seven times and focused on grabbing rebounds and tipping in his teammates’ misses.
All of that helped Wembanyama and his teammates to close out the game. The finishing touch was when he shot a step-back three to extend their lead. On the other hand, the New York Knicks guard tried his best to keep them in the game. Nevertheless, the Spurs emerged victorious in a close game after the overtime period.
