Aiyuk is still awaiting a long-term extension from the San Francisco 49ers.

Brandon Aiyuk’s agent refutes reports of Steelers’ aggressive pursuit of the 49ers WR

The San Francisco 49ers are in a rough situation. The team is in a position wherein it has to hand out two big contracts to its quarterback and wide receiver, however, it remains reluctant to do so. While Brock Purdy is patiently waiting his turn, Brandon Aiyuk is doing the opposite. Despite being under contract through the 2024 season, he is looking for a new deal and does not want to be in a position wherein he is placed under the franchise tag.

As Brandon Aiyuk continues to play hardball with the San Francisco 49ers, the rumor mill has put him at a disadvantage rather than working in his favor. A while ago, reports of the Pittsburgh Steelers wanting to sign him surfaced. It was initially believed to have been initiated from his side to compel the 49ers to work sooner and reach a deal but turns out, that Aiyuk’s agent is far from happy with these rumors.

After Chase Senior, a journalist posted a video wherein he claimed that the Pittsburgh Steelers are aggressively pursuing a Brandon Aiyuk trade and the negotiations had reached a point where the team would be “surprised” if it didn’t land Aiyuk. He further suggested that the 49ers would ask the Steelers for their 20th overall pick in case they fail to get a deal done with Aiyuk and would draft an offensive lineman or a wideout to replace him in the draft as part of the package.

However, Aiyuk’s agent Ryan Williams was quick to call Chase Senior out on his incorrect report.

Another "report" that couldn't be more incorrect. Fictional "journalism" should really stop.

Brandon Aiyuk wants to play for the San Francisco 49ers

With his post, Ryan Williams took a jibe at Senior’s credibility. However, it should be noted that Senior was basing his opinions on the report from Noah Strackbein of All Steelers and Jarrett Bailey of SB Nation.

With so much speculation surrounding Brandon Aiyuk’s future, rumours have surfaced. The wide receiver has made it clear that he wants to remain a San Francisco 49er but at the same time, he is merely asking to be paid his worth. Aiyuk is serious and could hold out until he gets a deal from the 49ers with which he is content with.

The team is certain that the wide receiver will come around and they are not hearing other teams out concerning trade offers for him at the moment. A lot of teams have reached out inquiring about his availability but the 49ers understand how vital Aiyuk is for their success. The wideout has also not explicitly demanded a trade from the team yet because that would be a move from which it will be hard to come back from.
