Police caution tape at a scene

A former basketball player for Louisiana State University is dead at the age of 29 years old following a fatal collision.

According to Memphis Police, former All-SEC star Danielle Ballard was struck by a car while walking this Thursday.

“Danielle Ballard, a former basketball player at Louisiana State University, died after being hit by a car Thursday, Memphis Police and LSU confirm,” News Channel 3 in Memphis reported.

“According to MPD, a little before 1:30 a.m., officers responded to a pedestrian hit at Coleman Road and Raleigh-Lagrange Road. The 29-year-old victim was taken to Regional One Health, where she was pronounced dead. The driver stayed on the scene.”

Ballard was highly recruited coming out of high school before going on to star for LSU. She averaged over 12 points a game for the women’s program.

This will come as a blow to the university amid what has been a great year so far. The school won the Women’s basketball national championship, as well as the College World Series in 2023, with Angel Resse being awarded at the ESPYS on Wednesday night.

TotalProSports extends condolences to Ballard’s family, friends, and loved ones.
