Chiefs helmet on the field.

That didn’t take long…

Entering the 2023 season, the Kansas City Chiefs were expecting big things from wide receiver Kadarius Toney. The former first-round pick of the New York Giants joined the Chiefs in a midseason trade last year. And he caught a crucial touchdown during their 38-35 Super Bowl victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

But other than that, it’s been a lot of disappointment in Toney’s career thus far, mainly due to injuries…

And it appears as though he has another.

According to Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, the 24-year-old speedster “tweaked” his knee during a special teams drill at the Chiefs’ first practice of training camp. The injury was concerning enough to hold him out for the remainder of the session.

No word yet on how serious the injury is or how long it could sideline Toney, but it’s certainly not the type of start he was hoping for in his first full season in Kansas City.

The former 20th overall pick of the Giants is currently slated to start the season as the Chiefs’ number one wideout. He’s earned plenty of praise early on, but he’s only played 10 and nine games in each of his first two NFL seasons.

If he’s going to make the type of impact the Chiefs are hoping for, he’ll need to shake off this latest ailment and stay on the field in 2023.
