Former New York Giants offensive tackle Korey Cunningham was found dead on Thursday.

Cunningham was found dead at his home in Clifton, New Jersey, on Thursday, according to a report from RLS Media. He was just 28 years old.

The report says that police responded to a call at the home and found the former New York Giants player unresponsive. According to the authorities, the death was thought to be a suicide, and no foul play was suspected.

On Friday morning, the New York Giants would release the following statement, “We are saddened to hear of the passing of Korey Cunningham. He was a vital part of the spirit and camaraderie of the locker room. Our thoughts are with Korey’s family, friends and teammates.”

The seventh-round pick with the Arizona Cardinals in the 2018 NFL draft spent one season in Arizona and two seasons with the New England Patriots (2019-2020) before joining the Giants for two seasons (2021-2022).

As a rookie, Cunningham played in six games with the Cardinals, starting six of them. He was then dealt to the New England Patriots in 2019 in exchange for a 2020 sixth-round draft pick. Over the course of two seasons with the Patriots, he made 12 appearances, via Wikipedia.com.

On August 31, 2021, Cunningham was released by New England; a week later, the New York Giants, whose then-head coach Joe Judge knew Cunningham from their days together in New England, acquired him.

 

Cunningham appeared in 31 games across five NFL seasons. He made six starts.
