It appears Patrick Mahomes has found his star receiver, after a season of carrying the weakest receiving squad. With the Kansas City Chiefs’ offseason program in action, the annual “Camp Mahomes” sessions have also begun, where the elite quarterback has been hosting workouts with the team’s pass-rushers to build chemistry.

Midst those sessions, the one who charmed the two-time NFL MVP the most is the newly-signed Marquise Brown. As the Chiefs are aiming for a three-peat, they can’t afford to go into another season without a solid weapon in the receiving corps. And that’s where Mahomes has immense optimism for Brown, which appears to have grown more since their workout sessions together.

While talking to the media this week, the three-time Super Bowl champion shared his first impressions of Brown during their training sessions in Texas and highlighted how the receiver surprised him with his route-running abilities.

I think everybody has seen his speed and the way he’s able to track a football down the field which we’ll obviously use. I think the route running is what I’ve been pleasantly surprised by. Just the way he’s able to get in and out of his cuts, he has a good feel for space and like I said he wants to learn more and more, so I think as he gets within our offense and learns how with the freedom you have and the route running and your ability to find space I think we can utilize that over the middle of the field.

said Patrick Mahomes, showering high praise at Brown.

Chiefs’ priorities in the upcoming NFL draft

Before the addition of Brown to the roster, the Chiefs had Rashee RiceMarquez Valdes-Scantling, Justin Watson, and Skyy Moore in the receiving corps. Last season, the one who bloomed later on was rookie Rice leading the Chiefs to the Super Bowl victory.

The team has a strong quarterback and offensive weapon Travis Kelce. However, the lack of a proper receiving weapon may cost them their three-peat goal.

However, Rice’s future in the team remains uncertain at the moment, amidst his involvement in legal issues for a serious car accident in Dallas.  So far, the Chiefs’ biggest priority is to be strengthening their receiving position and the upcoming draft may present them with the right opportunity to fulfill their need for potential wide receivers.
