George Karlaftis was the Chiefs' first round pick a couple of years...

Despite having a roster that many considered incomplete heading into the 2023 season, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs once again found a way to beat everyone in the NFL Playoffs on their road to a third Super Bowl in five years.

It was a different kind of Chiefs team this time around, one that relied heavily on a stout defense and timely playmaking from Mahomes, Travis Kelce and some role players on offense. Despite winning it all, the Chiefs must continue adding pieces to maintain their dominance, and that starts with Round 1 of the NFL Draft this Thursday.

Rashee Rice returns to Chiefs practice with Patrick Mahomes amid legal issues

What will Chiefs do in 2024 NFL Draft?

Once again, wide receiver appears to be the top need for Kansas City. Despite signing Marquise Brown in free agency, the team is still thin at the position.

They still haven’t re-signed Marquez Valdes-Scantling or Mecole Hardman, two players who played a big role in the Super Bowl. Rashee Rice, the outstanding rookie from last year, is dealing with serious legal issues and is likely to face a multi-game suspension no matter what happens with his legal process.

That would essentially leave Mahomes with only Brown and several below-average players at receiver. With options like Adonai MitchellLadd McConkey and Xavier Worthy potentially available at pick 32, Kansas City need to give themselves and their legendary quarterback an insurance policy at wide receiver.

They have gone defense with their first pick in the last three drafts and haven’t drafted a wideout in the first round in 2011, but that looks primed to change on Thursday night.
