Mel Kiper during a segment on ESPN.

Mel Kiper is one of the most highly respected NFL Draft analysts of his time. He has been with ESPN, covering drafts for 40 years after the 2024 NFL Draft, slated to take place in Detroit on April 25th.

However, according to longtime colleague Todd McShay, Kiper does not own a cell phone and refuses to cave to the current media generation. McShay says Kiper’s wife receives all texts meant for the ESPN Draft analyst.

McShay also stated that he has four different numbers for the 63-year-old Kiper, meaning he most likely has four different landlines in his home. He also added that it can be even more challenging to reach Mel as his wife Kim sometimes picks up the phone.

The fact that Kiper doesn’t own a cellphone today speaks volumes about his methods and explains how he is so consistent in making his highly anticipated draft predictions.

Mel Kiper Is Old School When It Comes To His Draft Predictions

Fans were quick to praise Kiper’s way of remaining informed without a cell phone as one fan commented, “Love how old school Kiper is,” and another added “This is stuff of legend” praising the fact that Kiper is till on top of his game.

Not all fans were quick to praise the old-time predictor, though. Some fans criticized Kiper, with one stating that he’s “wrong more than he’s right.” Another pointed out that he gets “two correct picks in the first round on average..”

Kiper’s resiliency in fighting the modern-day urge to pick up a cell phone and just read all the interesting facts about the many future NFL players is something to admire overall. One would assume a cell phone would come in handy to aid his predictions.
