Popular U.S. City Has Emerged As Strong Candidate To Land The Kansas City Chiefs Franchise As Relocation Rumors Continue To Swirl

The Kansas City Chiefs are being mentioned in relocation rumors following a pertinent vote, and a certain Texas city is being tipped to land them.

The Chiefs are undoubtedly the most dominant team in football right now, having won two consecutive Super Bowls, but their home stadium and facilities aren’t the best. And Kansas City won’t be paying for the much-needed renovations due to said vote.

According to KMBC, Jackson County legislator Manny Abarca reckons something could be going on behind the scenes to get the team to move to San Antonio, which would mark a return to Texas as the Kansas City Chiefs used to be the Dallas Texans during their AFL days in the 1960s.

“There’s murmurings about it, but the fact that there’s even murmurings means that something’s going on,” Abarca was quoted as saying.

Former San Antonio Mayor Doesn’t See The Kansas City Chiefs Moving

Former San Antonio mayor Henry Cisneros doesn’t think such a move would ever materialize due to the relationship between the team and its current home.

 

“I think Kansas City ought to do what it can to save the Chiefs,” he told KMBC. “And the Chiefs ought to remember the great success that they’ve had with Kansas City and how loyal those fans have been. That should be a marriage that lasts in perpetuity.”

Cisneros and Red McCombs, the former Minnesota Vikings and San Antonio Spurs owner (now deceased), were key to the development of the Alamodome near San Antonio’s downtown area. The venue was completed in 1993 with the hope of an NFL expansion or relocation team moving in, but things didn’t work out that way.

While it would also need renovations, the Alamodome would probably house the Chiefs if a move came to fruition. Still, no one believes the Chiefs would actually leave Missouri. It’s simply unthinkable.
