Derrick Henry brings his hard running game to the already potent Baltimore Ravens attack.

Roquan Smith admits being excited about Derrick Henry’s impact alongside Lamar Jackson on the Ravens’ offense

The Baltimore Ravens have been labelled as having achieved one of the best signings in the off-season. Bringing in superstar running back Derrick Henry unlocks a quotient of their game which has already caused a mental impact on the rest of the league. All-Pro linebacker Roquan Smith revealed his excitement about the impact Henry and Lamar Jackson will have on their offense.

The Baltimore Ravens‘ star opened up to reporters for their first press conference of the season. Amidst the questions, linebacker Roquan Smith was asked about his opinion about Henry’s addition. He said;

I think that's huge. Anytime you need a play with him and Lamar back there, I'm excited. It's gonna open up a lot for everyone. It's gonna be scary. I'm excited to see, I'm glad that I'm on the defensive side and watching those guys cheering them on. Maybe I have to get some popcorn on the sideline while I'm watching those guys go to work. It's a great piece added to us.

Roquan Smith said

Smith suggested that bringing the former All-Pro running back helps the Ravens execute their game plan better. This means the Ravens may employ run-focused attacks to wear down defenses.

Lamar Jackson strikes fear in the hearts of opposition defenders whenever he takes off for a run. Now if they throw Derrick Henry in the mix, defenders will start gasping for breath later in the game. One will take the wind out of defenders by making them miss, and the other will wear their bodies down as the game goes on.

No wonder a linebacker of Smith’s ability thinks that the combo will be scary. He knows first-hand what it is to like to go against the 6′ 3″ 250lb running back. He is also happy that his team managed to snag Henry in the off-season.

The Baltimore Ravens and their pursuit of Derrick Henry

Entering the off-season, running backs J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards were set to test their value in free agency. This meant, either the Ravens had to find a better player to replace them, or at least find suitable alternatives. This year’s running back market was flush with superior talent. However, the Ravens chose to focus on Henry.

Baltimore Ravens signed Derrick Henry in the off-season to a 2-year contract

With the Tennessee Titans focusing on signing replacements, the ball started to fall in the favor of the Ravens. However, a certain America’s team was swirling around the free-agent ground pounder. Therefore, the Ravens lost no time to snap up Henry and hand him a 2-year $16 million contract with $9 million guaranteed.
The Baltimore Ravens have ensured that the rest of the league will be on notice whenever they go up against the duo. Roquan Smith is right to want a bag of popcorn whenever Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry are on the field.
