Travis Kelce is 34-years-old, and naturally, that is the age some NFL players are either already out of the league, or are heavily thinking about retirement.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end remains one of the best at his position, but that hasn’t stopped him from pondering life after football. Although the eight-time Pro Bowler hasn’t missed very many games during his career, he has taken a beating, and all of those injuries are starting to add up.

Kelce told J.R. Moehringer of WSJ. Magazine he thinks about retirement “more than anyone could ever imagine.” He added that the physical toll he has absorbed is “the only thing I’ve never really been open about.”

According to the Chiefs tight end, he’s undergone 10 surgeries in his football career.

“The discomfort. The pain. The lingering injuries—the 10 surgeries I’ve had that I still feel every single surgery to this day,” he said.

Based on how much pain he’s feeling and the fact that he has been clearly setting up his post-retirement career with the many moves he has made, it seems that retirement might be sooner rather than later.
