It certainly falls like a new era of the NBA has arrived. These NBA Playoffs are an example of that, as players who have dominated for over a decade got bounced from the postseason way earlier than usual.

Unfortunately, even legends of the game aren’t safe from memes. LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry fell victim after being eliminated from the playoffs. They were subject to the Cancun meme treatment.

The Cancun meme was made famous by NBA on TNT, who would claim that whichever team got eliminated from the postseason would end up on vacation in Mexico.

The meme has evolved since then, with “gone fishin’” taking its place. For instance, the Los Angeles Lakers were sent to Galveston, Texas by the NBA on TNT crew after losing to the Denver Nuggets last night.

It shouldn’t be taken too seriously. After all, only one team out of 32 ends up winning the NBA Championship anyway.

But seeing James, Curry and Durant all together after just the first round is a sight that no one is used to. We’ll have to get used to it.
