Daniel Radcliffe Reacts to Johnny Depp ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Casting Backlash
Daniel Radcliffe has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Johnny Depp’s casting as Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. While J.K. Rowling defended the decision to keep Depp in the movie, citing their understanding of the circumstances, Radcliffe suggested that Depp’s alleged domestic abuse was much worse than what other actors had been fired for in the Harry Potter franchise.
He stayed fairly neutral but subtly hinted that Depp’s role should be recast immediately. The backlash against Depp’s casting reflects a growing trend of audiences being more stringent about who they want to watch on the big screen in light of sexual assault allegations against Hollywood stars.
