The 60-year-old first resorted to drug use as a kid to deal with his mother abusing him. He would begin with nerve pills stolen from his mother’s purse. His arsenal grew soon enough. For the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory star, it was never about having a blast. Resorting to substances was just a way to deal with the circus that his life was.
