Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Grammer talked about how he found out that he would no longer be playing Beast after his appearance in X-Men: The Last Stand. The actor said:

“I thought, well, we finally arrived! And they came up and said we found this fabulous new direction for the franchise. I thought, ‘This is it. I’ve made it. I’m finally in a franchise movie — and they said that they were gonna go back in time and Beast was gonna be younger. Then I slowly deduced that I was not included.”

Grammer would learn that Nicholas Hoult would be cast as Beast, to play the character in X-Men: First Class, and the successive films that would come out. However, Grammer had the opportunity to play Beast one more time, in X-Men: Days of Future Past, even if it was as a small cameo.

At the same time, with the endpoint of the current phase being Avengers: Secret Wars, it is now possible for Grammer and other X-Men alum to return to play these iconic roles.

Grammer is beyond excited to essay the role of Dr. Hank McCoy again. The actor talked about his competition with Nicholas Hoult, saying that he is excited to see who would be the “Greatest Beast” ever. The actor said:

“It’s a great feather in my cap now to have him come back and have people still be interested in seeing who was arguably the greatest Beast ever,”

Beast, along with other members of the X-Men have been popping up in the MCU, with the myriad of characters still left to make an appearance. Deadpool 3 will mark the first official entry of a feature-length X-Men-related property of the MCU, which is set to star Jackman’s Wolverine.

Sabretooth will also be a part of the MCU, which could be the gateway to other characters, such as James Marsden’s Scott Summers, Halle Berry’s Storm, and Ian McKellen’s Magneto. All of these characters might make an appearance in the MCU in future projects.
