Leonardo DiCaprio Refused to Use Body Double For Painful R-Rated Scene With Margot Robbie in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’

The Wolf of Wall Street is one of the biggest hits of the Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio and is considered one of the classics. The film was directed by renowned director Martin Scorsese and written by Terence Winter. It is based on Jordan Belfort’s 2007 memoir of the same name. Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Belfort, a renowned stockbroker, in his fifth collaboration with Scorsese. He was also a producer of the film.

There are numerous spectacular and unforgettable scenes in the film, however, there was one scene where one could not help but flinch.

The film was termed controversial for its moral ambiguity and explicit s*xual content, extreme profanity, depiction of hard drug use, and more. There was a particular scene, which was quite unexpected, the candle s*x scene. As per the plot, there was a s*x scene of Leonardo DiCaprio with Margot Robbie. The scene started with DiCaprio inserting a dripping candle in his butt.

In an interview with Extra, The Departed star was asked about the infamous scene in The Wolf of Wall Street. On being asked if he used a body double for the scene the star denied it and said,

“It was all me pal. When you do the character like this, you have to go all out, we can’t pull any punches. You have to just swing for the fences. So no body-doubles, I don’t think so, All the flopping around all that everything was on me.”

Leonardo DiCaprio was widely appreciated for his role as Belfort in the film. It was a major commercial success for the actors and director, as it grossed $406.9 million worldwide. It became Martin Scorsese‘s highest-grossing film.

Margot Robbie confessed about encouraging Leonardo DiCaprio in doing the candle scene

Margot Robbie, who played the wife of Leonardo DiCaprio in the 2013 film, revealed that the s*x scene with DiCaprio was in the book but not the script.

She shared with Variety,

“I kind of provoked Leo into doing it, and I can’t believe he did. I said if he was committed to the role, then he would do it properly.”

DiCaprio built up the courage to suggest Scorsese, who approved the idea. Thelma Schoonmaker shared that DiCaprio did not use a body double for his nude scenes in the film. She added,

“And then the prop man had to light the candle.”

Screenwriter Terence Winter also shared,

“It was in the book, but I didn’t write it into the screenplay. Then the day they were going to shoot it, Leo was brave enough to tell Marty that the scene originally started with a candle up his butt, and then, well there you go. It was there!”

The film was nominated for five awards at the 86th Academy Awards ceremony: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor (for DiCaprio), and Best Supporting Actor (for Hill). DiCaprio won the Golden Globe Best Actor Award.
