Leonardo DiCaprio’s Next Movie Is A Dream Collaboration (& Beats A Martin Scorsese Reunion)

Leonardo DiCaprio has been a longtime collaborator of Martin Scorsese but his next project with a different acclaimed filmmaker is much more exciting.

Following his 2023 appearance in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, Leonardo DiCaprio is set to star in his first-ever collaboration with acclaimed director Paul Thomas Anderson. Anderson has been celebrated for his masterful directorial efforts in films such as The Master (2012), There Will Be Blood (2007), Phantom Thread (2017), Boogie Nights (1997), and Magnolia (1999). DiCaprio is a longtime collaborator with Martin Scorsese on projects such as Gangs of New York (2002), The Aviator (2004), The Departed (2006), Shutter Island (2010), and The Wolf of Wall Street (2013).

While any DiCaprio and Scorsese collaboration is a landmark event in cinematic history, it is incredibly exciting to see DiCaprio finally team up with one of the greatest working directors on the planet. It makes sense that a Dicaprio-Anderson project would eventually surface since the renowned actor has already worked with living filmmaking legends such as Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Steven Spielberg, and Christopher Nolan. Anderson absolutely belongs in this elite category and could help guide DiCaprio to his first Oscar win since 2015’s The Revenant.

Why Leonardo DiCaprio Working With PTA Is So Exciting

Paul Thomas Anderson (PTA) is one of the best working directors that DiCaprio hasn’t worked with yet, so that fact alone is very exciting. It will also be incredibly interesting to see the caliber of performance that PTA can get out of DiCaprio, especially given the fact that some of the most outstanding actors of our time have given their best, or at least one of the best, performances in PTA movies.

These include Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood), Joaquin Phoenix (The Master), Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master), and even Tom Cruise (Magnolia) and Adam Sandler (Punch-Drunk Love).

Expectations are already sky-high for the DiCaprio-PTA pairing, which will also feature performances from acting heavyweights Sean Penn and Regina Hall. The film is expected to be filmed and set in Southern California, which would align with a major theme of many of PTA’s previous films such as Magnolia, Boogie Nights, Punch-Drunk Love, Inherent Vice, and Licorice Pizza. Many of PTA’s protagonists portray deeply flawed, and often corrupt or outcast, male characters, which could make for one of the most nuanced performances of DiCaprio’s illustrious career.

The DiCaprio-PTA collaboration could also work out very well for the acclaimed director, whose name alone doesn’t necessarily draw a wide box office showing itself. Combining the originality and technical skill of PTA in the director’s chair mixed with the classic Hollywood movie star appeal of DiCaprio sounds like a home run of a movie that could result in one of PTA’s best box office performances. PTA’s highest-grossing film, There Will Be Blood, is arguably his best with a domestic box office total of $76.2 million. With Leonardo DiCaprio on board, PTA’s next film could be the biggest of his career.
