‘She knows how to respect her guest’: Kelly Clarkson praised for stopping to learn how to pronounce Twice singer’s name during interview as fans laud her for making group feel ‘comfortable’

Kelly Clarkson has been praised for pausing an interview with girl band Twice to learn how to properly announce a singer’s name.

The K-pop girl group are taking the world by storm, with the nine-piece dropping by The Kelly Clarkson show this week for a chat and to perform their new single Moonlight Sunrise.

And during the interview, as Kelly asked member Tzuyu about the meaning behind the band’s song, she double checked the pronunciation of her name after hearing their translator pronounce the name different.

And watching the scenes at home, fans were quick to comment and applaud Kelly for not only checking with the interpreter, but for actually checking with Tzuyu herself – with one remarking that the star ‘knows how ro respect her guest’.

While others were quick to laud the performer for making the girls feel ‘comfortable’ on her show in the face of a language barrier.

The interview saw Kelly address each band member – Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu – by their name, while they chatted about everything from music, food and their mutual beginnings on audition shows.

At the beginning of the chat, Kelly did warn that she may not successfully pronounce their names right , remarking: ‘If I don’t, I’m sorry. I’m Texan!’

However, in a sweet moment with Tzuyu the Because Of You hitmaker took extra time and care to say her moniker correctly when asking about the meaning behind their song.

She had initially announced her name as ‘tzoo-yoo’ before checking with the translator if she’d said it right.

However, when the translator said it in both Korean and phonetically based on the English romanization, Kelly became confused, quipping: ‘Oh, OK — wait, wait, what?’

Tzuyu’s name is pronounced ‘Jjeu-Wee’ in Korean, however her fans have romanized her name in English, meaning she’s known as ‘Chewy’.

And while the interpreter insisted that ‘Tzoo-yoo is good’, Kelly was keen to hear how Tzuyu herself preferred to be addressed, asking:  ‘How do you want me to say it?’

With the singer then remarking: ‘Jjeu-Wee’, as Kelly then quipped: ‘How you say it is adorable! Okay, so, Jjeu-Wee – I think I said it right, I’m trying.’
