In 2013’s The Lone Ranger, the Alice in Wonderland actor impressed audiences and critics in an old-fashioned Western adventure thriller in which he played an entertaining Native American character. But the experience also proved to be a near-fatal one for Depp during one of the action-packed horse riding sequences when the actor was almost trampled after falling off his horse.

Hawk-eyed fans pointed out a significant detail from the footage that they speculated, could have saved Depp’s life.

Did Johnny Depp’s Horse Save His Life in The Lone Ranger?

Johnny Depp’s 2013 western film The Lone Ranger, saw the star share screen space with Armie Hammer in a narrative about the two characters’ adventures in the American Wild West. The film, as expected, was filled with many exciting action sequences of both actors frenetically riding through the deserts on their horses.

Depp realized firsthand the challenges of filming these segments after being involved in a near-fatal accident when he narrowly missed being trampled by his horse after accidentally falling off.

While this was a scary experience as confessed by the Pirates of the Caribbean actor himself, many observant fans who watched the behind-the-scenes footage multiple times, pointed out that Depp was, in fact, saved by his horse based on the comments section of the video that was played on ABC News.

“That’s a damn good horse!. He knew Johnny was falling and prepared for him to fall. He’s lucky”

While many other viewers concurred with the opinion of this fan, the fact remains that this was a touch-and-go incident that could have gone wrong very quickly for Johnny Depp. Fortunately, the Sleepy Hollow star lived to tell the tale.

Johnny Depp On The Bird Inspiration Behind His Character In The Lone Ranger

Johnny Depp’s portrayal of the Native American hero Tonto, in The Lone Ranger, was the perfect example of the actor’s ability to consistently take on entertaining and interesting roles with a unique twist.

The star who is known to add quirky touches to each character, had a similar experience when trying to flesh out this role. Speaking to Refinery 29, Depp spoke of being inspired by the paintings of a striped warrior by Keith Richards that ultimately led to the famous crow on the head as a prop.

The lines are what interested me. It was like seeing four sections of the man, like he was dissected, or something. There was a crow flying behind him in the painting. At first glance, I thought the crow was on his head, but it wasn’t. I used that as inspiration, though. I decided that the best thing to do was to take a dead bird and put it on top of my head as a kind of spirit guide. Everyone should try it, by the way. It’s really something else.”
