Dwyane Wade’s 2024 Production Boasts Oscar Potential Following Major Deal
From the hardwood to business conferences, Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade has continued to make his fans and family proud. Even the entertainment world doesn’t seem so far fetched for the 3x NBA champion. This is not just due to Gabrielle Union’s influence over her husband’s life. As an executive producer, D-Wade is taking huge strides. Just days after his success with the “The Dad”, another of his creations has made the headlines.
“The Barber of Little Rock” is a critically acclaimed documentary short that is set to make a splash in the Oscar race after being acquired by New Yorker Studios. Nominated for a Critics Choice Documentary Award and boasting the 13x NBA All-Star as an executive producer, the film has garnered attention for its compelling storytelling. The documentary will highlight the racial wealth gap with special focus on the Washington’s People Trust, a bank founded by Little Rock barber, Arlo Washington.

As per The Hollywood Reporter it is scheduled to be released on the magazine’s channels in January 2024. Showcasing his expertise, executive producer Wade demonstrates his influence through 59th & Prairie Entertainment, his production company. “The Barber of Little Rock is the type of meaningful and inspiring storytelling we strive to amplify at 59th and Prairie Entertainment,” explained the Miami Heat legend.
A stroll through the Instagram page of the production company shares a glimpse of the hard work that is put into the company. Speaking about the New Yorker collaboration, D-Wade said, “We are thrilled to partner with the New Yorker to bring greater awareness to an important and uplifting story of resilience and hope for a better future.”
The former player occasionally shares updates on his personal account as well. Recently, he shared his gratitude to be a part of the production group of ‘The Dad.’ It was released on Netflix, this November.

Just a few days ago, Netflix announced its decision to acquire Luchina Fisher’s documentary, “The Dad”. The series is focused on the lives and relationships of five fathers with transgender children.
Speaking of the series, Wade said, “The Dads shows us the power of fathers loving and supporting their LGBTQ children, breaking through the barriers of prejudice, embracing diversity, and coming together to have these important conversations.”
