ESPN’s ‘SportsCenter’ host John Anderson’s run is nearing an end, with the longtime sports personality set to retire later this year after 25 years.

Anderson announced his plan to retire when his contract with the company runs out in June, disclosing as much on his ‘Inside Wisconsin’ show.

While he is poised to step away, Anderson will continue to work on various programs for ESPN, including coverage of the Boston and New York Marathons.

My contract runs out at ESPN at the end of June and I have decided that will be the end,” he said. “I’m gonna leave the company. I’m gonna sort of retire from ‘SportsCenter.’ I’m going to get to do a few track and field things. I’m going to get to continue to do the Boston Marathon and the New York Marathon, which I love. And some NCAA track meets and some SEC stuff. I am incredibly excited about that. It’s been a good run.

John Anderson admitted struggling to keep up with the changes to ‘SportsCenter’, revealing that they have taken a toll and he isn’t sure he can go through more changes.

I don’t know that in Years 26 or 27 that I have the stamina to go through it again,” he added.

John Anderson Has Been Around For A Long Time

John Anderson was hired by ESPN in June 1999, with The Worldwide Leader In Sports snatching him from KPHO-TV in Phoenix, Arizona. He has been at the forefront of the network’s broadcasting since then.

Currently, he anchors the 11 PM edition of ‘SportsCenter’, also covering various track and field events, particularly the aforementioned marathons.

John Andersson hosted the popular ABC game show ‘Wipeout’ from 2008 to 2014.
