The mom from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, said she dropped off her daughter at John Glenn Elementary as normal on the morning of Tuesday, April 23.

But that afternoon, she was left dumbfounded after the school called to say she had wandered off with another pupil and been found by the cops.

“I got there, my child was in the conference room,” she told NewsNation affiliate KFOR.

“I was told that my child left at 12.40 because they saw it on the cameras.”

She added: “I was shaking, I’m still shaking.”

The two children are believed to have left during recess and were found around a mile away from school.

She also feels the situation could have turned out far worse.

“They’re very beautiful young ladies, anyone could have picked them up,” she said.

Keeling added the girls were left “scared,” and several people had stopped to ask them if they were ok.

Although Keeling took responsibility for her child leaving campus, she said: “The school needs to take accountability for the fact that no one was watching them when they left and the gates are wide open.”

The two young girls were missing for an hour and 35 minutes before being picked up.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Western Heights Public School District, which covers John Glenn Elementary, said: “The safety and security of our students is our utmost priority.

“Yesterday afternoon, two John Glenn students left campus without permission.

“The circumstances surrounding their departure are being thoroughly reviewed and we are committed to enhancing our supervision protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.”

The statement went on: “While this is an isolated incident, we remain vigilant in our efforts to maintain a safe learning environment.

“Our district continuously evaluates and updates safety procedures to address any potential vulnerabilities.

“We encourage an open dialogue between school, parents, and students to reinforce the importance of adhering to safety and security protocols at all times.”

Keeling said her daughter told her she had run away to spend time with her friend.

In the wake of Tuesday’s incident, Keeling said she enrolled her daughter in a different school the very next morning.

She added that she has no plans on going back.
