Ritchson appeared on this week’s edition of The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon to promote his new movie Ordinary Angels, and was asked by the host whether he was a bit of an action hero in real life.

This led the Reacher star to recount an incident in which he delivered his own kind of justice to someone that had been stealing from a car in Montreal while he was on a break from filming. Ritchson said:

“I love justice, right. You know, who doesn’t? I’m not going to wait for the clumsy, you know, fickle justice system to take care of things for us. I’ll do it myself. So I’m on a date with my wife. We’re in Old Montreal shooting the show and we got all dressed up, walking down the cobblestone streets. It’s dusk. It’s beautiful outside.

And she sees feet dangling out of a window. And she goes I think someone is breaking into that car. So, this guy pulls out of the car, and he’s got like four duffel bags of stuff.

And he starts running towards us. And I was like, that dude definitely just broke into that car. And we lock eyes as he passes. He’s definitely like an Acme villain, and I’m going to have to do something about this. And she goes…she looks in my eyes and she goes, ‘We’re on a date.’ I go, ‘Please I have to do this.’”

“So I took off and I started chasing this dude and by the time he passes us he was scooting pretty good. He took the corner. I come around the corner and the dude is like David Copperfield, he’s gone. And somebody from way down the block goes, ‘He’s under the van!’ I looked under the van and like 3 feet in front of me.

And he started scooting. I go, ‘Just give up dude!’ He leaves the duffel back and I was like I’m not done yet. So he just gets off and starts running and I’m side by side with him now, because I’m pretty fast. He also was fast but I’m faster.

So I’m side by side and I’m like dude don’t do this. And he starts to ball up his hands and he’s like going to punch me or something. I’m like don’t touch me. I’m going to have to end it. And he goes to push me and I gently take him like a shot put, like a discus, and I twirl him right into the building and he slides down like a cartoon character in real life.”

Reacher Season 3 Will Feature a Whole New Cast

Alan Ritchson as Reacher, Maria Sten as Neagley, Serina Swan as Dixon and Shaun Sipos O'Donnell together in Reacher Reacher Season 2 Alan Ritchson, Shaun Sipos, Serinda Swan, and Maria Sten at a funeral saluting someone in Reacher Shaun Sipos as David O'Donnell wearing a large grey coat looking at someone off-screen in Reacher

Reacher is a series that does not need too much in the way of audience investment season to season, with a mostly new cast appearing in each new story.

Additionally, by Ritchson and author Lee Child’s own confession, Jack Reacher himself does not really change from one story to the next. This means that along with the return of Ritchson in the title role, Season 3 will be bringing in a host of new stars, the first of which were revealed earlier this month.

The new season added its newest recruits last week, with a former Brat Pack member and a Lodge 49 star jumping on board the Reacher bandwagon.

Anthony Michael Hall as Zachary Beck, a businessman and single father whose carpet business raises suspicions of being more than it appears, and Sonya Cassidy, who will portray Susan Duffy, a sharp-witted DEA agent from Boston, who also acts as a love interest for Reacher.

With Ritchson suggesting that Season 3 is “nearing completion” it seems that fans will probably get to see more from Reacher before the end of the year, and for fans of the show, that cannot come fast enough.
