Zack Snyder’s 300
Zack Snyder’s 300 is still one of the most appreciated works in the genre. Known for its stylized visuals and set pieces, it was a fictional retelling of the historical Battle of Thermopylae. Looks like Jonathan Bailey also wants to make something similar but with a twist of LGBTQ in it.

During an interview with GQ regarding their Fellow Travelers, Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer, both expressed their interest in making a 300-esque War movie surrounding the Sacred Band of Thebes. The 35-year-old actor pitched a terrific idea focusing on the historical elite fighting unit that had 150 male lovers.
“I’m obsessed with the Sacred Band of Thebes, an army of 300 gay lovers in [ancient] Greece. They partnered in pairs, this gay army, and they overthrew a Spartan army… I want to do that as a comedy.”
It can’t be denied that such a project can be a memorable war drama if it comes to fruition. Matt Bomer also expressed great interest in the idea to which Bailey claimed that they should get all the queer actors together- “Just get all the queer actors together.” It is reported that the fighting unit made such a remarkable and lethal force because of the power of their love.

Although it is not known if the Bridgerton star’s Sacred Band of Thebes movie will ever come to fruition, Zack Snyder has recently regained the rights to his long-planned homoerotic war drama. Initially, Snyder wanted to develop Blood and Ashes as a sequel to his highly successful 300 but eventually, the movie went on a different way.

While having a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, the Man of Steel mastermind revealed that he got back the rights to the script that he co-wrote with Kurt Johnstad. Zack Snyder pitched the idea of a violent love story between Alexander the Great with his second-in-command, Haphaestion to Warner Bros.
“We got the rights back so we can make if we want it. I don’t know what the marketplace is for an incredibly homoerotic, super violent, super s*xual movie. But maybe it’s perfect.”
It was one of the last collaborations planned between Snyder and Warner Bros. Despite liking the idea initially, the studio didn’t go forward with it due to their strained relationship with the director because of the Josstice League fiasco. However, with the rights officially back now, the director can explore more options to work on it.
