Gerard Butler, renowned for his role in “Angel Has Fallen,” alongside the talented Morena Baccarin from “Deadpool” and director Ric Roman Waugh, are all set to reprise their roles in the highly anticipated sequel, “Greenland: Migration.”
Penned by Chris Sparling and Mitchell Lafortune, the screenplay delves into the aftermath of a cataclysmic event where the Garrity family must venture beyond the safety of the Greenland bunker.
The family embarks on a perilous journey across the desolate wasteland of Europe in search of a new home, following the devastation caused by the comet named ‘Clarke’ that has decimated the Earth.
“Greenland,” the first installment, made its theatrical debut in the summer of 2020 during the lockdown, courtesy of STX and international partners. After a successful theatrical run, the movie transitioned to SVOD platforms, followed by an exclusive stint on HBO Max in the United States.
Sébastien Raybaud expressed enthusiasm about the sequel, stating, “We are thrilled to have Gerard, Morena, and Ric back on board for Greenland: Migration to show the audiences what happened next to the Garrity family.”
Sam Brown, President of Production at STX Entertainment, echoed the excitement, emphasizing the compelling narrative and visuals that captivated audiences in the first film.
Behind the scenes, the production boasts a stellar team, including Thunder Road Pictures’ Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, Anton’s Sébastien Raybaud and John Zois, G-BASE’s Gerard Butler and Alan Siegel, and CineMachine’s Brendon Boyea.
Executive producers include Robert Simonds, Noah Fogelson, and Sam Brown for STX Entertainment, Ric Roman Waugh for CineMachine, and Chris Sparling. The film will be co-financed and co-produced by Anton and STX, with STX handling global distribution.
The project, aptly presented at the European Film Market (EFM) via Black Bear, has already garnered significant international pre-sales. While domestic release plans are yet to be unveiled, Lionsgate, with a domestic deal through STX, has expressed interest.
The film is scheduled to commence production in the UK this April, promising another adrenaline-pumping experience for fans.
