‘It’s about time’: Gerard Butler says he wants to become a father and start a family in the next five years

He’s played a king on the silver screen and released his new action-thriller Geostorm on Friday.

But Gerard Butler has babies on the brain as he told PEOPLE magazine he’s ready to settle down and have children.

The actor said that becoming a father is one of the roles he’d love to play in real life.

‘In five years I want to be in a relationship,’ Butler told the publication. ‘I’d love to have one or two kids — it’s about time.’

The 300 actor said that dating has taken a backseat to his stellar career, which has affected his opportunities to create a family.

With five films in the pipeline for the next few years, the P.S. I Love you star said it’s difficult for him to even find the time to pursue a family.

The busy movie star has been touring the world promoting his new action-thriller Geostorm, which was released on Friday.

Known for his role as King Leonidas in the film 300, Gerard also faced a close call in a ‘hefty’ motorbike crash two weeks ago.

Recalling the accident, he told The Graham Norton Show last night: ‘A woman went from being parked to doing a U-turn and hit me. I did a somersault about 30ft in the air.

‘I jumped straight up but realised I done something bad. I broke my ankle and damaged my knee. It was pretty hefty.’

Butler was joined on the BBC One couch by actor Jeff Goldblum, comic Jack Whitehall, singer Gregory Porter and former US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
